About the role

tl;dr We’re hiring a Business Operations Lead to own critical, company-wide goals across finance, revenue operations, marketing operations, and internal projects as we scale Agave.

This is a high-impact, generalist role for someone who wants real ownership early in their career and is excited to build systems and playbooks from 0→1, not just maintain them.

Why are we hiring this role?

Agave is growing quickly, and many of our most important business workflows still live across spreadsheets, inboxes, and ad-hoc processes. This role exists to:

  • Take ownership of core business operations that cut across teams
  • Bring structure, rigor, and follow-through to high-leverage initiatives
  • Free up founders and functional leads to focus on product, customers, and growth

You’ll work closely with our CEO, Tom, and our first ops hire, Nicole. You will have visibility into nearly every part of the business.

Responsibilities

Business Operations

Own and execute key business operations, including (but not limited to):

  • Revenue operations & finance: Be the backbone of how money moves through the company — from invoice to cash to reporting
    • Own end-to-end customer invoicing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and clean handoffs with customers
    • Track, reconcile, and report on revenue across all streams (subscriptions, add-ons, partners, and more)
    • Build and maintain lightweight systems to make sure we always know what we’ve billed, what we’ve collected, and what’s outstanding
  • Renewals & pricing
    • Manage annual renewals and year-over-year price increases
    • Coordinate customer communications and internal tracking for renewals
    • Build out a repeatable renewal strategy and process
  • Marketing operations: Keep our external presence sharp & consistent
    • Manage logistics for conferences, trade shows, and events — from planning to execution
    • Draft and send customer newsletters and product updates
    • Own and publish company social media posts in collaboration with leadership
    • Maintain and refresh product assets across the website, marketplace listings, and sales materials
  • Vendor & Partner Management: Make sure partner revenue is tracked, paid, and never a black box.
    • Track revenue received from vendors and partners
    • Manage rev-share calculations and payouts to VARs
    • Build simple, reliable tracking to ensure accuracy and transparency on both sides

Project management

  • Project management (ad hoc): spearhead projects, whether related to people or our business
    • ex: we need a new FP&A tool; research available software and propose a suitable solution
    • ex: build a system to fully automate sending swag to partners

Requirements

Who you are:

  • graduate from a top university (e.g. Stanford, Berkeley, Princeton, MIT, etc.) with a strong academic record
  • 1+ years of experience working in operations at a startup OR proven operational experience at a top-tier consulting firm
  • hungry to learn, resourceful, and excited to get hands-on experience at a fast-growing startup
  • comfortable wearing many hats and figuring things out quickly with limited direction

Must have:

  • curiosity, hustle, and ability to figure things out quickly
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • detail-orientation and organizational skills
  • comfortable operating independently and efficiently, with little upfront guidance
  • desire to learn, experiment, and use data to iterate to better decisions

Nice to have:

  • STEM undergraduate degree

Benefits

  • Healthcare: we cover 90% of your healthcare costs with several plan options.
  • 401k: we match 100% of your contributions, up to 4% of annual salary.
  • Relocation: sizable relocation bonus for folks currently located outside of the Bay Area.
  • Gym: on-site gym with Peloton, squat rack, Tempo, Yoga setup, and more.
  • Visa: we sponsor Visas (H1B, TN, etc.) for candidates who are a good fit!
  • Performance Bonuses: we offer annual performance bonuses when we hit company growth goals, which are a % of your base salary. These are large, meaningful rewards that scale with the amount we grow in a particular year.
  • Relocation: sizable relocation bonus for folks currently located outside of the Bay Area, and a bonus for anyone (even within the Bay Area) who moves within a 15-minute walk of our office.
  • Commuter benefits: employees can make pre-tax contributions toward commuting costs, and we’ll cover the full cost of a Muni pass for those using public transit.

In-Person

  • We've built Agave in-person since day 1, and will maintain an in-person culture in San Francisco going forward. We form tighter bonds, build a stronger culture, and move faster since we're all working from one location.
  • Our office is at 101 New Montgomery Street, San Francisco, right near Salesforce Park, coffee shops & restaurants, and a bustling downtown. We believe building in-person is a huge strategic advantage, and we hope you’ll join us.

About Agave

We’re modernizing construction, a $12T global industry run by siloed software built 20-40 years ago (on-prem, no APIs, no mobile access, etc.).

Our core product is Agave Sync, which helps General and Trade Contractors keep financial data in sync between their field teams on jobsites and their accounting teams in a central back office.

We do this by building proprietary connections between these companies' systems of record using our API and syncing data between them automatically. We save them time and money, making them more productive and profitable.

Our founding team has worked together for 10 years, first at Graphiq (acq. by Amazon) then at Amazon. We've raised over $5m from YC, Accel, and leaders from Plaid, Procore, Autodesk, PlanGrid, Aconex, and more.
