Role Description
Salesforce has immediate opportunities for software developers who want their lines of code to have significant and measurable positive impact for users, the company's bottom line, and the industry. You will be working with a group of world-class engineers to build the breakthrough features our customers will love, adopt, and use while keeping our trusted CRM platform stable and scalable. The software engineer role at Salesforce encompasses architecture, design, implementation, and testing to ensure we build products right and release them with high quality.
Code review, mentoring junior engineers, and providing technical guidance to the team (depending on the seniority level) We pride ourselves on writing high-quality, maintainable code that strengthens the stability of the product and makes our lives easier. We embrace the hybrid model and celebrate the individual strengths of each team member while encouraging everyone on the team to grow into the best version of themselves. We believe that autonomous teams with the freedom to make decisions will empower the individuals, the product, the company, and the customers they serve to thrive.
Your Impact
Role Description
Global accessibility is foundational to inclusive and ethical web application development. Non-compliant digital experiences risk excluding users from a global market exceeding $1.2 trillion, while WCAG 2.1 continues to be the primary standard referenced in accessibility litigation worldwide—mandated by governments in the U.S. and Europe and increasingly adopted across APAC.
As part of the Accessibility Framework team, this role focuses on the development of platform-level automation and tooling for web component accessibility. The team builds scalable solutions that embed WCAG compliance directly into engineering workflows, ensuring accessibility is addressed early and consistently across the platform.
This role actively steers web component initiatives to meet evolving accessibility standards, proactively addressing emerging WCAG requirements and risks. In addition, the role champions AI-driven accessibility solutions, leveraging AI to streamline issue detection, triage, and remediation, and to scale accessibility compliance as products and standards continue to evolve.
Your Impact
As a member of the Accessibility Framework team, your contributions will advance the Salesforce platform. You will design, build, and scale foundational accessibility tooling that enables automated, consistent accessibility validation across Salesforce’s engineering ecosystem.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Build and evolve accessibility frameworks and tooling
- Design, develop, and maintain core accessibility frameworks such as Sa11y (Salesforce Accessibility Framework), built on top of open source library axe-core, enabling automated accessibility validation across unit, integration, and end-to-end testing environments in Jest and Selenium.
- Integrate accessibility validation into CI/CD pipelines
- Drive the integration of automated accessibility checks into Core and Offcore CI, ensuring accessibility is enforced as a first-class quality gate and regressions are detected early in the development lifecycle.
- Scale accessibility enforcement through platform integrations
- Lead and contribute to deep integrations of accessibility tooling into Salesforce platforms and workflows, including autonomous agent framework and various CI testing stages.
- Automate accessibility bug detection and reporting
- Implement end-to-end automation for detecting, classifying, and filing accessibility issues using standardized guidelines, improving bug quality, consistency, and developer actionability.
- Develop advanced accessibility validation capabilities
- Build automation for complex accessibility requirements such as resize and reflow, reducing reliance on manual testing and improving coverage for real-world user scenarios.
- Enable visibility and governance through data pipelines
- Design and maintain systems that ingest and normalize accessibility audit data, providing centralized visibility, reporting, and actionable insights for engineering teams and leadership.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure WCAG compliance and drive adoption
- Partner closely with the User Experience (UX) team and internal developers to ensure products meet WCAG standards, provide guidance on accessibility best practices, and influence design and implementation decisions early in the development process.
- Advocate and enable AI-driven accessibility solutions
- Champion the use of AI-powered approaches to streamline accessibility issue detection, triage, and remediation, helping teams resolve issues faster and at greater scale.
- Own quality, scalability, and long-term sustainability
- Ensure accessibility frameworks and integrations are reliable, scalable, and easy to adopt, with a strong focus on developer experience, documentation, and extensibility.
Required Skills
- Strong experience in software framework and tooling development, with hands-on expertise building and maintaining automation solutions at scale.
- Proficiency in core web technologies including JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and data/configuration formats such as JSON and XML.
- Solid understanding of web accessibility standards and guidelines, including WCAG principles, and how they apply to modern web applications and component frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience developing or influencing accessible web components and patterns within a shared platform or design system.
- Working knowledge of assistive technologies (e.g., screen readers, keyboard navigation, zoom/reflow behaviors) and how users interact with accessible interfaces.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose accessibility issues and design scalable, automated solutions.
- Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with UX, product, and engineering teams to drive accessibility outcomes.
Preferred Skills
- Deep expertise in WCAG (2.1/2.2) and ARIA, including applying standards pragmatically within component-based architectures.
- Experience building or maintaining accessibility tooling, automation frameworks, or CI/CD integrations for frontend validation.
- Hands-on experience with modern frontend frameworks such as LWC, React, Angular, or Vue, and understanding their accessibility implications.
- Familiarity with accessibility testing tools and techniques, including axe-based tooling, linters, and automated and manual audit workflows.
- Experience conducting or operationalizing accessibility audits, translating findings into actionable engineering improvements.
- Exposure to AI-assisted or data-driven approaches for accessibility issue detection, triage, or remediation.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence design and engineering decisions through clear guidance and documentation.
- Commitment to inclusive design principles and empathy for diverse user needs and assistive technology users.
- Knowledge of frontend best practices related to performance, responsiveness, resize/reflow behavior, and usability as they relate to accessibility.
- Demonstrated continuous learning mindset, staying current with evolving accessibility standards, tooling, and industry best practices.
