Role Description

DET IT is looking for a Senior Member of the Technical Staff (SMTS) to join our IT Finance Engineering team.

This role is focused primarily on designing, implementing, and optimizing enterprise tax solutions using Vertex, with strong engineering knowledge of system integrations across Finance, ERP, Billing, and Revenue platforms.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Vertex configuration and indirect tax processes (Sales & Use Tax, VAT/GST), combined with hands-on technical experience integrating Vertex with enterprise systems via APIs, middleware, and event-driven architectures.

This is not a middleware-only role — it is a tax systems engineering role with integration architecture responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end implementation and enhancement of Vertex tax solutions across enterprise Finance and Revenue systems.

  • Configure and optimize Vertex O Series / tax calculation engines, including tax rules, jurisdictions, exemptions, and reporting.

  • Design and implement integrations between Vertex and ERP, Billing, Revenue Recognition, and Order Management systems.

  • Define tax data flows, transaction mapping, and reconciliation controls across upstream and downstream systems.

  • Collaborate with Finance, Tax, Revenue Operations, and Engineering teams to translate regulatory and business requirements into scalable technical designs.

  • Troubleshoot tax calculation discrepancies, integration failures, and reconciliation issues.

  • Define integration standards including API contracts, payload structures, error handling frameworks, and monitoring strategies.

  • Drive performance optimization, scalability, and compliance across high-volume transaction environments.

  • Participate in architecture reviews and guide engineering best practices for tax system integrations.

  • Ensure audit readiness, documentation quality, and SOX compliance where applicable.

Required Skills

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience implementing and supporting Vertex tax solutions in enterprise environments.

  • Strong expertise in indirect tax domains: Sales & Use Tax, VAT, GST, cross-border taxation, exemptions, and compliance.

  • Deep functional and technical knowledge of Vertex configuration (rules, jurisdictions, rates, exemptions, certificates, reporting).

  • Experience integrating Vertex with ERP, billing, and revenue systems using REST/SOAP APIs, middleware platforms, or custom integration frameworks.

  • Strong understanding of Quote-to-Cash and Record-to-Report processes.

  • Solid engineering background with experience in API design, data mapping, JSON/XML transformations, and secure integrations.

  • Experience with integration technologies (MuleSoft, Boomi, Informatica, or similar) — expertise in one is sufficient; not platform-dependent.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills across tax, integration, and financial data flows.

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with CI/CD practices and version control (GIT).

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance Systems, or related field.

Desired Skills

  • Experience implementing Vertex in high-volume SaaS or subscription-based business models.

  • Familiarity with revenue systems such as RevPro and billing platforms.

  • Experience designing scalable tax integration patterns for global operations.

  • Knowledge of compliance controls, audit processes, and financial system governance.

  • Exposure to enterprise data platforms and reporting tools.
