Description
About Salesforce
Salesforce is the #1 AI CRM, dedicated to empowering companies through Trust, Customer Success, Innovation, Equality, and Sustainability. Our Developer Productivity team is the "engineer's engineer"—we build the tools and infrastructure that allow thousands of developers to ship code safely and at high velocity.
Your Impact
As a Junior to Intermediate engineer, you will be a key contributor to the systems that power Salesforce’s compilation and testing pipelines. You will focus on improving the daily lives of your peers by reducing build wait times and ensuring the reliability of our C++ and Bazel-based environments. This is a high-growth role where you will learn to manage hyper-scale infrastructure in an AI-first development world.
Responsibilities
- Execute Build Improvements: Help maintain and optimize our Bazel build graphs to ensure hermetic and reproducible builds across the organization.
- Support C++ Toolchains: Assist in managing C++ compilers and linkers, ensuring core engines are built efficiently and without friction.
- Troubleshoot CI/CD: Investigate and resolve build failures, flaky tests, and pipeline bottlenecks in our modern CI systems.
- Developer Advocacy: Create documentation and provide support for internal engineering teams as they adopt new build patterns or migrate to Bazel.
- Feature Implementation: Develop small-to-medium features for our developer tooling, such as automated dashboarding for build metrics or custom Starlark rules.
- Learn and Iterate: Work closely with senior staff to learn the intricacies of distributed caching and remote execution.
Required Skills
- Experience: 2+ years (MTS)/5+ years (SMTS) of professional experience in Software Engineering, DevOps, or Infrastructure.
- C++/Java/C# Basics: Solid understanding of OOPS and C++/Java/C# fundamentals and experience navigating large C++ codebases.
- Build System Awareness: Familiarity with at least one industrial-grade build system (e.g., CMake, Make, Gradle, or Maven).
- Scripting: Proficiency in Python, Bash, or Go for automation tasks.
- Problem Solving: A strong ability to debug complex build errors and environment-specific issues.
Preferred Skills (The "Nice-to-Haves")
- Bazel Exposure: Hands-on experience with Bazel or similar "artifact-based" build tools (Buck, Pants).
- CI/CD Knowledge: Experience with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar workflow orchestration tools.
- AI Tooling: Interest or experience in using AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Einstein Copilot) to improve engineering workflows.
- Containerization: Basic knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
