The Opportunity

In this role, you will support the Global Trade legal function at Salesforce, including Sanctions, Export Controls, and Customs. The position reports to the Sr. Director/Head of Global Trade.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

  • Develop and execute global trade compliance aligned with Salesforce's business objectives and growth plans

  • Establish and maintain relationships with cross-functional teams, internal stakeholders, external trade counsel, customs brokers, and regulatory agencies

  • Monitor evolving global trade regulations and assess impact on Salesforce operations

  • Ensure global trade compliance for all Salesforce products, services, and technology transfers

  • Support export licensing processes by preparing, submitting, monitoring, and coordinating with US government agencies (BIS, OFAC, DDTC) and non-US government agencies

  • Create and implement global trade policies, procedures, and training programs

  • Support screening processes for customers, partners, suppliers, and other 3rd parties, including escalations

  • Support customs compliance with customs manager

  • Maintain trade compliance monitoring and reporting systems

  • Provide legal advice and guidance to sales, legal, product, and operations teams

  • Create and deliver comprehensive training programs for Salesforce global employees

  • Serve as subject matter legal expert for trade-related aspects of new product launches and market expansions

  • Support M&A activities by conducting trade compliance due diligence

  • Draft regular reports for executive leadership and board committees

  • Support government reporting requirements and voluntary disclosure processes

  • Some amount of travel required (approximately 5%)


You’re Our Person If…

  • At least 7+ years in trade compliance legal work

  • Juris Doctor degree and admitted to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

  • Strong preference for in-house legal work experience; work in the tech sector a plus

  • Deep legal and/or regulatory expertise in US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions regulations; US Export Administration Regulations (EAR); US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR); and US customs & border protection (CBP) regulations

  • Experience interfacing with government agencies, particularly OFAC and the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS). Experience with the US Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC), US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the DOJ a plus

  • Experience with, or willingness to learn and provide legal advice on, non-US sanctions, export control, and customs regimes, particularly in the EU and UK

  • Skilled at assessing enterprise-wide trade compliance risk, and designing mitigation

  • Experience advising on compliance tool development for a large enterprise; experience with AI a plus

  • Proven ability at building multi-stakeholder collaboration and enabling a complex set of business teams and operations with compliance solutions

  • Skilled at communicating trade compliance risks, opportunities, and needs across different business functions

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic business environment

  • Analytical mindset with impeccable attention to detail

  • A proactive, self-starter nature and “can-do” attitude
