Description

About the Role

Join Salesforce's Workspace Engineering team to build and optimize remote development environments for our AI-first development organization. You'll design products and services that enable developers to deliver workflows with 10x productivity gains, collaborate across teams, contribute to open source, and implement cutting-edge AI solutions.

What You'll Do

Platform & Infrastructure

  • Design and maintain Nix-based devcontainer images with s6-overlay lifecycle management, automated rebuild/rollback, and persistent home directories

  • Build devcontainer features (Agentforce, OrgFarm, CoreApp settings) following framework standards

  • Lead Gold Standard Workspaces initiative — defining and enforcing criteria for healthy, reproducible environments

Build Systems & Performance

  • Own Bazel build infrastructure with Remote Build Execution (RBE) integration, cache optimization, and multi-codeline performance tuning

  • Profile and resolve build bottlenecks, RBE failures, and cache hit ratios

  • Partner with JetBrains and internal teams on IntelliJ BSP/Bazel plugin stability

Backend Services

  • Develop sfw-controlplane-api: workspace provisioning pipelines, Temporal workflows, DynamoDB provisioning, snapshot lifecycle, and Hyperforce/Falcon deployments

  • Implement Single Schema/Single Config initiative to unify workspace configuration

Security & Compliance

  • Drive supply chain security: migrate images to Trusted Image Central (TIC), enable Renovate for dependency updates

  • Mirror Nix packages to Nexus/Artifactory; migrate EBS snapshot creation to Jenkins

  • Enforce security SLAs, eliminate configuration drift, manage workspace shutdowns for deactivated users

Observability & Support

  • Build dashboards and telemetry in Honeycomb; migrate to Monitoring Cloud/AutoTelemetry

  • Create AI-powered diagnostic tooling to automate health checks and reduce MTTR

  • Participate in support hero rotation: triage Sev3+ incidents (snapshots, IDE connectivity, RBE issues)

  • Maintain developer documentation for workspace setup and tooling

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Partner with CBX/Bazel, SFCI, JetBrains, OrgFarm, Temporal, and Hyperforce teams

  • Author technical designs, lead deep-dives, drive V2MOM measures, contribute to sprint planning

Required Skills

  • Languages: Shell, Python, TypeScript/Node.js, Go, Java, YAML, Puppet, OpenAPI

  • Package Management: Nix

  • Infrastructure: Kubernetes (FKP/EKS), Docker, AWS (EC2/EBS/DynamoDB), RHEL 9, Pomerium, Temporal

  • Build Systems: Bazel, BuildFarm, Remote Build Execution

  • Observability: Honeycomb

  • Strong debugging, performance analysis, and incident response skills
