Description
Overview of the Role
Salesforce's Messaging and Solutions Marketing org is one of the most visible marketing organizations in the company responsible for how the world understands Salesforce across our core products and company narrative. This role is the business operations engine of that org.
You'll work directly with the Sr. Director of Messaging Strategy & Operations as their business operations partner, and you'll own the numbers: the org's budget, its headcount plan, and the financial scenario modeling behind every organizational decision. This is a delivery role for someone who has been in the spreadsheets — when leadership hands down a target with a two-week deadline, you're the person who models the scenarios, protects valuable work, and gets the org to an answer.
You'll prepare materials that go to the CMO, support the org's EVP walk into reviews with our CEO, and have a direct hand in the calls that support steering the org’s direction. If you want proximity to how Salesforce's story gets made and support the business behind it, this is that role.
What You'll Do
Strategic operating partner: support and prepare CMO- and CEO-ready materials; synthesize messy, incomplete inputs into the crisp point of view a senior leader needs to decide or flag, and translate strategy into something the org can actually execute
Own headcount planning end to end: be the single source of truth for the org's headcount planning: every position, backfill, geo/level change, and transfer modeled against budget targets; partner with Central Planning, finance planners, and Employee Success on position management, approvals, and org changes
Lead budget planning and financial operations: track spend across programs, headcount, contractors, and T&E; run requarterizations and incremental funding requests; build budget models in Excel/Google Sheets the team can actually use; prep quarterly Spend Health Reviews for the EVP alongside our functional planners
Run incremental, reduction and scenario modeling under pressure — when targets and requests land, model options quickly and strategically: changes, additions, reductions, geo arbitrage, budget ratio conversions; surface risks before they reach the Sr. Director's desk
Drive the org's planning rhythm — support the V2MOM process (team planning/goals - method owners, milestones, readiness), annual and quarterly planning checkpoints, action tracking, and decision capture; keep leadership forums sharp
Use and build AI tools — experiment with Claude Code and Salesforce's internal AI environment to automate tracking, synthesis, and reporting workflows
What We're Looking For
Required
5+ years in business operations, FP&A, strategy & operations, or workforce/headcount planning — non-traditional backgrounds welcome, but hands-on operational delivery is essential
Demonstrated spreadsheet fluency (Excel and Google Sheets): you've built and maintained budget and headcount models, handled reductions, and can walk us through a live model — not describe one in the abstract
Experience running full budget planning cycles: strategic initiatives planning, tracking spend, modeling cuts, working with central/functional planners, hitting targets
Experience with strategic headcount or workforce planning — position tracking, backfills, org changes — ideally in partnership with an FP&A or central planning function
Strong written and verbal communication; able to draft executive-level materials independently
Track record of building structure in ambiguous environments and driving work forward without oversight
Preferred
Background in strategy consulting (with hands-on delivery), FP&A, or strategy & ops at a high-growth or matrixed company
Experience supporting workforce actions (reductions, increases, reorgs) with the judgment and discretion they require
Hands-on curiosity about AI tools; experience with Claude or Claude Code a plus
Comfort operating across senior stakeholders in a matrixed org; you see range as an opportunity
