Description
About the Team
Workspace Engineering India is based out of Hyderabad, India and is part of the Core DX (Core Developer Experience) org. We own the Salesforce Workspaces platform.
Our mission:
To provide a "faster than local" inner loop that acts as the industry standard for secure, AI-native, cloud-based development — eliminating the friction of local machine setup, while enabling AI-augmented productivity.
Our core focus areas include: Salesforce Workspaces (SFW), Remote Build Execution (RBE), FTC (Ftest Console) Web, Agentic Developer Workspaces.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a seasoned, dynamic engineering leader to take full ownership of the Workspace Engineering India team — guiding it through a pivotal moment of architectural transformation and AI-first development adoption. You will combine deep technical grounding with people-first leadership to deliver mission-critical platform capabilities that every Salesforce Core engineer depends on, every day.
This is not just a people-management role — it is a strategic leadership position that requires technical authority, developer empathy, and the ability to champion a true AI-first engineering culture from the ground up.
If you are passionate about leading engineering teams to create next-generation developer tools and have the strategic vision and technical expertise to drive success, we encourage you to apply and join our team.
Key Responsibilities:
AI-First Engineering Leadership
Champion and operationalize AI-driven development practices across the team: Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Prizm rules, and MCP-powered agentic workflows
Ensure every engineer is equipped and fluent in hybrid human-AI development — actively multiplying team velocity, not just adopting tools
Partner with internal AI and platform teams to integrate approved AI models and MCP gateways into developer workflows
Drive AI enablement initiatives: claude.md/agents.md specs across all repos, Slackbot skills, AI-powered code generation and review
Establish rigorous standards for validating and auditing AI-generated code, architecture, and documentation
Strategic Platform & Product Leadership
Partner with Product owners to define and drive the roadmap for Salesforce Workspaces, Remote Build Execution, FTC Web, and Agentic Workspaces — balancing FY27 commitments with long-term platform evolution
Help the team partner with and lead through the FKP Control Loop migration (legacy VM → Kubernetes-native) and Default Remote Execution rollout to 1,500+ developers
Deliver to the Near-Core/Single Schema platform expansion in partnership with product and platform teams
Partner tightly with the Product Owner, Architect, and US Workspace Engineering counterpart on priorities, delivery, and roadmap
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders — product management, architecture, and quality — to set priorities and deliver high-impact features
Communicate complex technical decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders and senior leadership across timezones
Team & People Development
Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 12+ engineers in Hyderabad with full end-to-end ownership
Conduct structured performance reviews, career development conversations, and 1:1 coaching
Cultivate a culture rooted in the team's guiding principles: Proactive · Proficient · Proud, developer empathy, and "you build it, you run it"
Attract and retain top engineering talent; represent the team at internal and external forums
Engineering Excellence & Observability
Enforce agile best practices; serve as Scrum lead for the India team through iterative development cycles
Champion robust observability across services — monitoring, logging, performance metrics, and blameless incident response
Drive continuous process improvement, risk identification, and operational excellence
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of engineering management experience in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
Proven track record leading distributed platform or developer tools teams with end-to-end ownership
Demonstrated experience operating as the senior engineering voice for an autonomous, cross-timezone team
Strong grounding in cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes/FKP)
Hands-on experience or strong working knowledge of AI-native development tools — LLM integrations, agent orchestration, and MCP frameworks
Ability to lead with both technical authority and human-centric coaching
Strong data-driven decision-making, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills
Familiarity with agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) at team scale
Effective communicator across technical, product, and executive audiences
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
Experience working within or alongside Salesforce products or ecosystems
Open-source contributions or community engagement
