Description

We are looking for an experienced Release Engineer to oversee the release lifecycle across our B2B and OMS product lines. You will serve as the central point of contact for development, product, QE, UX, CX teams, ensuring that our software shipping process is predictable, transparent, and collaborative. This is a strategic role focused on orchestrating complex release cycles, managing quality gates, and ensuring cross-functional alignment. You will be the "air traffic controller" for our releases, ensuring that organizational dependencies are managed and that stakeholders are informed and aligned on every milestone.

What You'll Own

  • Release Governance & Scheduling: Own the end-to-end release calendar for B2B and OMS. Plan milestones, track progress, and facilitate production readiness meetings to ensure every release is prepared for launch.

  • Cross-Functional Orchestration: Partner with platform, QE, and product leadership to manage dependencies, resolve scheduling conflicts, and remove blockers before they impact the timeline.

  • Branching, versioning, and cut strategy: Manage and define the release trains, hotfix paths.

  • Quality & Risk Management: Manage quality gates and establish clear procedures for hotfixes and emergency releases. You will define what "ready to release" means and ensure those standards are consistently met.

  • Communication & Visibility: Act as the primary communicator for release status. Provide clear, timely updates to leadership regarding milestone progress, deployment risks, and versioning strategies.

  • Process Improvement: Identify bottlenecks in the current release flow and work with engineering teams to streamline processes. Focus on reducing friction for human stakeholders rather than building the technical pipeline infrastructure yourself. Bring up the issues/concerns on pipelines in the cross-org architecture forums for their resolution.

  • Technical leadership: Mentor MTS and SMTS engineers on release engineering practices, set the bar for design reviews in this domain, and represent release engineering in cross-org architecture forums. Influence direction without needing positional authority.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • 8+ years in release engineering, release management or DevOps with demonstrated technical leadership on a platform-scale system.

  • Experience with releasing the systems on tech stack - JVM ecosystem (Maven/Gradle/Bazel, Spring Boot, JAR/WAR publishing), Node.js ecosystem (npm/pnpm/yarn, monorepos, package publishing).

  • Experience in Release automation and tooling - GitHub Actions / Jenkins / Buildkite pipelines, artifact registries (Artifactory, npm registry, internal CocoaPods/SPM mirrors), reproducible builds.

  • Experience in using Git internals — rebases, bisects, signed commits, hooks, monorepo workflows.

  • A strong track record of designing and enforcing release governance, branching strategies, and production readiness procedures.

  • Experience in creating Deployment dashboards, canary/progressive and phased rollout of the features

  • Familiarity with modern software development workflows (e.g., Trunk-based development, semantic versioning) and the ability to converse with engineers about release strategy

  • Familiarity in scripting (Bash, Python, or TypeScript) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Pulumi).

  • Ability to see the "big picture" of a release, identifying risks weeks in advance and proactively proposing solutions.

  • Experience in applying AI/LLM tooling to engineering workflows - coding assistants, automated review, agentic tooling, or LLM-backed automation.

  • Understanding of Cloud infrastructure and containerization (AWS/GCP, Docker, Kubernetes).

Strongly Preferred

  • Background in incident response and leading cross-functional teams during high-pressure production deployments.

  • Experience managing release cycles for multiple product lines.

  • Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, or similar project management tooling to track release milestones and documentation.

How You'll Be Successful Here

  • You are a master of context-switching and can balance the immediate needs of a hotfix with the long-term goals of a product roadmap.

  • You view "release management" as a service that enables teams to ship safely; you know how to influence outcomes through collaboration rather than positional authority.

  • You are proactive, not reactive. You create clear calendars and processes that prevent "last-minute surprises."

  • You treat release pipelines as a product, with internal users (humans and agents) and quality metrics.

  • You're allergic to manual steps. If something is done twice, you've already started automating it.

  • You have strong opinions about where humans belong in the loop and where they shouldn't be.

Why This Role Matters

As our product ecosystem expands across B2B and OMS, the complexity of shipping software grows exponentially. This role provides the trust, visibility, and coordination required to get features to our customers safely. You will be the bridge that ensures our engineering velocity matches our product strategy without sacrificing quality. Ultimately, your work directly impacts our reliability and dictates how smoothly our entire organization delivers value.
