Description
Location: San Francisco, CA or Bellevue, WA
As an Architect for MuleSoft, you will provide architectural leadership for the platforms and infrastructure that power MuleSoft's highly available, globally distributed services. You'll define the technical vision for complex infrastructure initiatives, working across engineering, product, security, and operations teams to translate business and platform requirements into scalable, resilient, secure, and operationally efficient solutions. This is a highly technical leadership role requiring strong architectural judgment, broad infrastructure expertise, and the ability to influence engineering direction across multiple teams and organizations.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
- Define and evolve the architecture for MuleSoft infrastructure and platform services, balancing scalability, availability, security, performance, and cost, while leading end-to-end design of complex distributed systems spanning cloud platforms, Kubernetes, networking, and data stores.
- Serve as a senior technical authority, leading architecture reviews and partnering with engineering leaders, product managers, security, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to evaluate tradeoffs and develop solutions across organizational boundaries.
- Develop strategies for modernizing legacy infrastructure and design for high availability, fault isolation, disaster recovery, and reduced blast radius across globally distributed systems.
- Identify architectural bottlenecks and systemic risks, and produce clear architecture documentation, reference architectures, and technical standards that guide teams toward consistent, scalable decisions.
You're Our Person If...
- You have 10+ years of experience designing and building large-scale software, cloud, or infrastructure systems, with significant experience providing architectural or senior technical leadership across multiple engineering teams.
- You have deep expertise with public cloud platforms (particularly Amazon Web Services (AWS)), Kubernetes and containerized infrastructure (including Docker and Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS)), and strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and API architectures.
- You have strong knowledge of networking concepts — Domain Name System (DNS), load balancing, routing, proxies, and network security — along with experience in high-availability, multi-region, and disaster-recovery architecture design.
- You communicate complex architectural concepts clearly to both technical and executive audiences, and have a strong track record of building consensus and mentoring senior technical talent.
Even Better If...
- You have experience architecting large-scale SaaS or enterprise cloud platforms, including globally distributed, multi-tenant systems.
- You have experience designing infrastructure supporting mission-critical services with stringent availability and reliability requirements.
- You have familiarity with modern Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) and software delivery platforms, including Git-based workflows and tools such as Jenkins.
- You hold relevant cloud, Kubernetes, security, or architecture certifications.
