About the role:

Bridgetown Research is building the AI platform that PE, VC, and consulting firms use to run due diligence and market research at superhuman speed. Our clients are the worlds largest institutional investors, consultancies, and corporate strategy teams with serious compliance expectations, and how we handle their questions is a direct reflection of the quality of our product.

We are hiring a Compliance & Legal Counsel to own that experience end to end. This is a rare blend of three roles in one: a client-facing strategist, the architect of our compliance function, and our in-house legal voice. You will be the person our clients’ compliance teams trust, the person who makes compliance a reason clients choose us, and the person who keeps our contracts and legal work moving. Bringing this function in-house is a deliberate investment: compliance is a top priority for Bridgetown, and we're building the capability to meet the standards of the world's most demanding institutions.

You will work closely with leadership and have the mandate to shape how Bridgetown approaches compliance as we scale.

What you’ll do:

• Be our compliance voice to clients. Own relationships with client compliance and security teams, lead their diligence and vendor review processes, and represent Bridgetown as a partner that takes their standards as seriously as they do. You'll make our diligence and security process something clients point to as a reason to trust us.

• Lead our compliance strategy. Assess our compliance and information-security posture, prioritize where to invest, and build the policies, controls, and infrastructure that keep us ahead of what institutional clients expect. You’ll set the roadmap and drive it, working across product, engineering, and sales.

• Run our in-house legal work. Handle commercial contract negotiations, review agreements, and manage day-to-day legal matters, deciding what we can own internally and what belongs with outside counsel.

What we’re looking for:

• Compliance experience. 2+ years in a compliance role at an investment firm (PE, hedge fund, family office, or similar), an expert network, or a software company selling into the above. You understand how investment firm compliance teams think because you’ve worked with or inside them.

• Strategic operator. You can set direction, scope and drive projects to completion, and lead people, not just execute a checklist.

• Client-ready. You’re comfortable owning senior relationships and can hold your own in the room with a client’s compliance or legal team.

• JD required. You hold a Juris Doctor and can take on real legal work. Bar admission is a plus.

Nice to have:

• AI proficiency. You’ve built and shipped your own AI projects, automated a workflow, or otherwise gone hands-on with AI tools on your own initiative. We’re an AI company, and we love people who think that way.

Details:

• Location: San Francisco. Hybrid, in office three days a week.

• Compensation: $190,000–$210,000 base, plus equity. Heavily subject to experience.
