We are looking for a collaborative Senior Fullstack Engineer to join the Backstage team, passionate about crafting the best developer experience for millions of developers in the software industry.
Spotify Portal for Backstage is our commercial offering built on top of the thriving open-source Backstage framework and extended with the product capabilities that power world-class internal developer portals. Our teams are focused on delivering high-impact, commercial-grade features that help companies of all sizes transform their developer experience. Whether it’s a large enterprise modernizing its platform engineering stack, or a fast-growing startup looking for plug-and-play productivity gains, our squads build solutions that meet customers where they are.
By joining us, you’ll shape the product experience for Portal customers while also contributing directly to the evolution of the open-source Backstage framework that underlies it. Your work will improve the day-to-day life of developers across our customer base, the wider Backstage community, and Spotify engineering itself. If you want to make a direct impact in helping Spotify become the industry leader in developer experience, this is the role for you.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers, product managers, and designers to solve exciting and impactful problems, delivering value to Spotify employees and external Backstage users.
- Build and maintain the Backstage ecosystem, internally and externally.
- Deliver testable, maintainable, and high-quality code, and take operational responsibility for the services that are owned by your team, potentially including taking part in an on-call rotation.
- Design and maintain fullstack systems, primarily using TypeScript, React, Node.js, and other modern web technologies.
- Contribute to technical RFCs and documentation to align approaches across the team and broader organization.
- Collaborate closely with not only product and design partners, but also marketing, business development, customer success, and sales.
- Mentor team members, share your knowledge and promote best practices.
- Deliver high-impact and high-visibility projects with the fast paced style of a startup, supported by the resources of a global company.
Who You Are
- You have solid experience working with modern web technologies such as TypeScript, React and Node.js.
- You are passionate about delivering end-to-end experiences and care about software architecture across the frontend, backend, and the APIs that glue them together.
- You have practical knowledge or experience with Backstage (or other developer portals) and are enthusiastic about improving developer tooling.
- You have excellent communication and collaboration skills and go above and beyond to ensure alignment across diverse teams.
- You value writing high-quality, testable code and are comfortable owning your work, from development to production.
- You care about your peers and supporting other engineering teams, as well as improving team processes.
- You are eager to learn, experiment, and thrive in a dynamic environment where priorities and responsibilities can vary frequently.
- If you have a history of contribution or other direct engagement with open-source projects, that would be a huge plus!
Where You'll Be
- This role is based in London (UK) or Stockholm (Sweden).
- We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home.
