Cloudera's Solutions Engineers are the technical leaders in the sales account team. We are responsible for securing the technical win in each sales opportunity and for building an ongoing relationship with our customers to ensure their success with Cloudera technologies.

You will use your strong technical skills and business acumen to understand customers’ challenges, design solutions and demonstrate how Cloudera technology can change their business. If you have a passion for technology and data, come join us!

As a Senior Solutions Engineer, you will:

  • Own the technical sales process from introductory meetings (net new sales) through post-sales (customer satisfaction, upselling, and subscription renewals)

  • Supporting the technical needs of customers including discovering new use cases for Cloudera’s technology

  • Designing solutions for your customers’ needs using Cloudera technologies, based on reference architectures and common patterns

  • Demonstrating Cloudera products in a way that inspires your customers to say “yes” to Cloudera

  • Partnering with your Account Managers to show your customers the true value of a Cloudera solution and drive successful sales

  • Presenting product roadmap and vision to inspire your customers to think bigger

  • Interfacing with other Cloudera teams to ensure your customers hear one Cloudera voice

  • Advocating for your customers’ needs to Product Management and Engineering

  • Participating in external publicity and evangelism (conferences, meetups, webinars, blogs)

We’re excited about you if you have:

  • A passion for using technology to make a difference to people and organisations. We'll supply some amazing tools to help you with this, and you'll provide the connection to use cases, which make it real for your customers

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a customer-facing role, ideally in a technical sales context

  • A University degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field

  • Experiencing the entire lifecycle from gathering and understanding business requirements to design to technology evaluation to pilot program to implementation to production maintenance and support

  • Confidence working with customers and public speaking on Cloudera’s vision, proposed architectures and business outcomes to all levels

  • Ability to be technically hands-on and have a problem solving personality

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with the following technologies:

    • Big Data, Data Warehousing or Relational Databases - Knowledge of the Cloudera Data Platform and the Hadoop ecosystem is a plus.

    • One or more of the three major cloud service providers (AWS, Azure or GCP) - certification is a plus

    • Practical experience with the full data lifecycle from data ingestion to data engineering, data warehouse, operational data store, data science and machine learning

    • Knowledge around Operations, Infosec and Data Governance within the enterprise adopting hybrid cloud approach

    • Unix/Linux expertise including solid OS and networking fundamentals

    • Foundational experience with Java / OO programming, Python or other scripting languages

    • Experience with Spark, Kafka, Flink, Hive, Impala and other open source projects

    • Experience with Kubernetes

    • Foundational experience with DevOps or MLOps
