About Code Metal

Code Metal is the leader in automated software engineering you can trust. As AI writes more of the world's code, the bottleneck in software has shifted from writing code to verifying it works, and AI cannot verify its own work with certainty. Code Metal takes a fundamentally different approach: constrain AI to what it does reliably, verify every step independently of the model using formal methods, and keep engineers in the loop on the decisions that matter. The result isn't code that probably works — it's code that is provably correct, with auditable proof. Customers including the U.S. Air Force, L3Harris, RTX, and Toshiba use Code Metal to modernize legacy code, optimize performance on real hardware, and move prototypes to production, fast. Founded in 2023 with offices in Boston and San Francisco, Code Metal is funded by Accel, Salesforce Ventures, B Capital, Smith Point Capital, J2 Ventures, Shield Capital, Overmatch, RTX, and others.

The Role:

We need a "builder" in the truest sense. You will be responsible for taking our current foundation and architecting a world-class finance function. You’ll be the right hand to the leadership team, ensuring we have the capital, discipline, and strategic insight to scale from $10M to $100M+.

This isn't a "sit back and manage" role. We need someone scrappy, hard-working, and deeply technical who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty with accounting entries one hour and lead a board-level strategic planning session the next.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Scaling: Lead the financial transition from an early-stage startup to a scaled enterprise, managing everything from bookings, backlog, and revenue forecasting to complex cap table management.

  • Operational Excellence: Build and oversee the entire accounting function (AP/AR, payroll, tax, audit). You’ll ensure our books are "Big Four" ready while maintaining startup agility.

  • Capital Allocation: Manage burn, optimize runway, and partner with the CEO on future fundraising rounds and investor relations.

  • AI-Driven Finance: Leverage your technical background to implement cutting-edge AI tools to automate internal workflows, making our finance department a model of efficiency.

  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Work closely with Engineering and Sales to align product milestones with financial targets and go-to-market strategies.

Who You Are:

  • Startup Veteran: You’ve been in the trenches. You have a proven track record of scaling a company from the $10M mark through significant growth phases.

  • Scrappy & Driven: You don't wait for a manual; you write it. You thrive in fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environments and possess a "no task is too small" attitude.

  • Big Picture & Detail Oriented: You can both speak to a long-range plan, but also put in place the operational building blocks to support the business through that growth.

  • Technically-Minded: You have a genuine interest in (or experience with) AI and deep tech. You can speak the language of our engineers and understand the unit economics of AI infrastructure.

  • Accounting Expert: You may have started in accounting or have a CPA, but more importantly, you understand the "why" behind the numbers and can build a robust compliance foundation.

  • Team-First: You are a low-ego, high-output collaborator who cares deeply about the mission and the people.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 3+ years in a high-growth startup leadership role.

  • Deep expertise in core financial metrics & KPIs and hardware/edge-related business models.

  • Strong proficiency in modern finance stacks (e.g., NetSuite/Rillet, Rippling, Ramp, Mosaic, etc.).

  • Excellent communication skills - able to distill complex financial data into actionable insights for the Board and the team.

Why Code Metal?

  • Impact: You will be building the function from the ground up, driving our strategic direction, and supporting key decisions.

  • Innovation: We are solving some of the hardest problems in AI and hardware.

  • Culture: A high-intensity, high-reward environment where we value "the work" above all else.

Are you ready to build the financial backbone of the Edge AI revolution?
