About the role:
CrowdStrike is seeking an experienced Data Center Tooling Engineer to join the Data Center Infrastructure team. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our rapidly scaling infrastructure efficiently operates and upon which our innovative services are delivered. This person should enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where adaptability and flexibility will be key to their success.
The candidate we seek is a forward thinking IT professional with deep experience applying and developing software tooling and automation solutions, to address complex operational issues.
The ideal candidate should have a strong background in software architecture, be comfortable working independently, and confident enough to suggest solutions. They should also be a natural collaborator, able to distill the needs of stakeholders and subject matter experts and translate these into long-term automated solutions. Extensive knowledge of managing servers, DCIM automation, programming/scripting, and performing complex projects in a large-scale, distributed data center environment is an advantage.
Although this is primarily a software development role (Python experience preferred), we're looking for someone that also has an intermediate-level understanding of engineering concepts such as IPMI, network routing and subnets, the physical layout and connections of both stand-alone and chassis servers, and SNMP to name a few examples.
What You’ll Do:

Assist with the development, deployment and maintenance of a wide variety of automation software, including but not limited to:
API development
Custom tooling development affecting server hardware
Asset security auditing and verification
Troubleshooting and triage
Composing thorough unit and integration tests
Report generation
DCIM asset creation and auditing
Create documentation both for developers and end-users
Provide training for developed applications and tools to other engineers and technicians
Participate in organization-wide major initiatives and cross functional group projects
Perform other duties as needed or assigned
What You’ll Need:
5+ years of software engineering experience
3+ years combined experience with Linux based operating systems
2+ years experience working closely with Data Center Systems and Architecture
2+ years combined experience in server hardware, networking and systems management
1+ years experience working with a Data Center Inventory Management Tool (DCIM)
Varsity-level Python programming
Solid design- and problem-solving skills
Proficiency with modern version control systems
Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work independently and meet deadlines
Ability to translate technical details into simple terminology both verbally and in writing
Ability to use independent judgment to make justifiable decisions while problem solving
Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced and high visibility environment
Ability to manage expectations and provide proactive status updates
Ability to effectively work with and communicate with all levels of staff
Demonstrable ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a methodical and disciplined manner
High level of organization when performing tasks related to concurrent project priorities
