Compensation includes a base salary of $196,100.00 - $326,800.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

Job Description

The Director of Software Engineering for Cox Automotive’s Inventory Management Solution organization leads engineering teams responsible for delivering Incentives and Rebate Services, along with software that helps automotive dealers manage and optimize vehicle inventory. This role drives a high‑performing engineering culture, ensures architectural alignment and reliable delivery across multiple scrum teams, and partners with senior leadership to advance strategic priorities. The Director oversees talent development, resource planning, risk management, budgeting, and collaboration across CoxAuto Dealer Solutions protfolio. Candidates should bring extensive engineering leadership experience, strong technical and communication skills, experience working with Automotive OEMs is a plus, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, agile environment.

About the Role

As the Director of Software Engineering, you will lead engineering teams responsible for delivering our Incentives and Rebate Services used across Dealer Solution portfolio. You’ll shape the technical strategy, elevate engineering excellence, and empower teams to build high‑quality, scalable, and reliable solutions across cloud and on‑prem environments.

You’ll partner with senior product, architecture, and engineering leaders to advance our strategic roadmap while cultivating a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, mentor, and develop high‑performing engineering teams delivering Incentives and Rebate Services and inventory‑focused software products.
  • Drive engineering excellence—ensuring architectural alignment, high‑quality delivery, and operational rigor across multiple scrum teams.
  • Partner with cross‑functional leaders to shape and execute technology strategy for Inventory Management Solution.
  • Manage staffing, talent development, performance, and long‑range capacity planning.
  • Oversee budgeting, risk management, and program execution to support business objectives.
  • Collaborate with partner teams across Cox Automotive, including HomeNet, to accelerate shared outcomes.
  • Champion Cox Automotive’s engineering values and represent our brand in the technology community.

What You Bring (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 10 years' related experience. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and 8 years' experience, a Ph.D. and 5 years' related experience; or 22 years' related experience.
  • 5+ years' software engineering leadership experience in a complex, fast‑paced environment.
  • Experience running and leading geographically dispersed teams, across multiple international time zones.
  • Strong technical foundation in software engineering and architecture across cloud and on‑prem platforms.
  • Experience leading large software modernization from monolith to service-oriented architecture.
  • Demonstrated success building and leading high‑performing, collaborative engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organizational leadership skills.
  • Experience working with Automotive OEMs is a plus.
  • Ability to travel approximately 15%.
