The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Job Summary
The Carbon & Energy Engineer II supports the Carbon Capital Team in the analytical, technical, and process-related aspects of energy conservation and alternative energy projects within a designated area. This role assists with energy audits, economic evaluation of prospective projects, site identification, construction planning, and project coordination activities that align with Cox Conserves goals. The Engineer II also supports energy procurement efforts and contributes to business continuity planning and critical project aspects. This position collaborates across the team and company to help ensure project integrity and alignment with sustainability objectives.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist with analytical, technical, and process-related aspects of Carbon & Energy and alternative energy projects within a designated area.
- Support energy audits to understand current and future energy requirements across facilities.
- Assist with economic evaluation of prospective projects, including assessing rebate potential, researching emerging technologies, and analyzing financial return rates and payback scenarios.
- Participate in site identification, construction planning, and project coordination activities.
- Support energy procurement through physical market transactions across wholesale and retail channels.
- Develop Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and assist with supply management objectives.
- Assist in executing financial models to determine investment IRR and energy/environmental impact for projects.
- Provide recommendations to support business continuity planning and critical project aspects.
- Help maintain internal sustainability databases with relevant project data and performance metrics.
- Support the team in strategic planning for the department's annual and long-term capital budget expenditures.
- Assist in design, construction, commissioning, and operations for energy projects.
- Analyze power bills and publications related to incentives to identify prospective locations for energy projects.
- File reports with utilities and government entities or other Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) as required.
- Ensure safe work practices in all project-related activities.
- Provide other support, as needed, to the Carbon Capital Team.
Job Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or similar degree along with 2+ years of related experience. Candidate can also have a combination of an MS degree and 1+ years of experience, or 6+ years of experience in lieu of a degree.
- Experience supporting project development/management activities.
- Analytical skills to evaluate data, assess financial return rates, and support decision-making.
- Effective team and corporate communication skills with an ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving.
- Ability to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams/schematics.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical, structural, and architectural diagrams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- Proficiency with energy modeling software.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with building operations: HVAC, electrical infrastructure, lighting, equipment loads, building envelope, etc.
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and standard practices.
- Exposure to energy procurement processes, including wholesale and retail market transactions.
- General knowledge of RFP development and supply management
- Computer proficiency, including all MS Office programs, energy modeling
- Excellent verbal/written corporate communication skills
- Ability to manage subcontractors and vendors
Other Essential Job Requirements and Working Conditions:
Travel: Up to 50% travel may be required
Location: position is based in Atlanta and requires a flexible in-office/remote working schedule
