Within this org, the Repo Rangers team has a focused mission: to accelerate software development and strengthen security and compliance in Dropbox’s rServer monorepo.

We’re looking for a Software Engineer to join the Repo Rangers team. In this role, you’ll make foundational investments in the libraries, packages, and tooling that support Dropbox’s two primary languages: Python and Go. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role at the heart of our engineering systems. It’s ideal for someone who’s passionate about programming language ecosystems, build systems, and enabling engineers to do their best work.

Our Engineering Career Framework is viewable by anyone outside the company and describes what’s expected for our engineers at each of our career levels. Check out our blog post on this topic and more here.

Responsibilities

  • Advance the Python and Go ecosystems within Dropbox’s monorepo
  • Design, build, and maintain SDKs, libraries, and runtimes for Python and Go
  • Develop tooling to integrate and update third-party language libraries in the monorepo
  • Periodically upgrade and maintain foundational first- and third-party libraries
  • Enhance developer experience through improved debugging, IDE integration, linters, and static analysis tools
  • Improve documentation and best practices to support Python and Go developer workflows
  • Promote adoption of modern profiling and performance optimization techniques
  • Collaborate closely with engineers across Build Toolchains, Services Platform, and infrastructure teams
  • Provide business hours support for language-related issues, toolchains, and library upgrades

On-call work may be necessary occasionally to help address bugs, outages, or other operational issues, with the goal of maintaining a stable and high-quality experience for our customers.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of professional software development experience
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field (e.g., Physics or Mathematics), or equivalent practical experience
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of incorporating feedback and partnering effectively with engineers
  • Demonstrated ability to define and deliver well-scoped projects and milestones
  • Comfort working independently to solve complex, ambiguous problems and design the right solutions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in programming and debugging across multiple languages such as Python, Go, C/C++, or Java
  • 4+ years of software development experience in Python
  • 2+ years of experience writing and maintaining Python libraries
  • 2+ years of experience developing in C/C++ or Go
  • Experience designing and building internal tools, libraries, compilers, or build systems (e.g., Bazel) in large engineering environment
