Dropbox is a Virtual First company. For this role, we are hiring in Zones 2 and 3. Please refer to our Compensation section below to see what neighborhoods fall under each Zone.
Role Description
Our communications team brings the Dropbox story to life and shares it with the world. From news announcements to user stories to speaking engagements, our work takes many forms and reaches diverse, international audiences. We build compelling narratives to help people connect with our product, brand, and vision.
As Head of Internal Communications, you will lead how Dropbox communicates with its own employees — shaping narratives that inform, align, and inspire teams during moments of momentum and change. Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, you’ll own the internal communications strategy and lead a high-performing team responsible for creative storytelling, executive communications, and employee engagement at scale.
This role is pivotal as Dropbox enters its next phase of growth through Dropbox Dash and doubling down on the rest of our portfolio — moving beyond change management to proactive, compelling storytelling that connects strategy, customers, product progress, and culture. You’ll partner closely with senior leaders across the company to ensure employees understand not just what we are doing, but why it matters and the important role they play in that.
You’ll have significant visibility and influence across the company, with the opportunity to modernize the ways we amplify our programs, elevate creativity with our Virtual First operating model as we engage with employees, and innovate in the AI-era of internal communications.

- Own and deliver an integrated internal communications strategy that builds clarity, trust, and engagement across the company
- Lead the Internal Communications team, continuing to scale its impact through clear ownership, strong craft, and thoughtful talent growth
- Partner closely with senior executives and cross-functional leaders as a trusted advisor on employee communications, change management, and alignment
- Drive compelling, proactive storytelling that connects company strategy, customer insights, product progress, and culture
- Drive engagement across all employee channels and events (in-person and virtual), including company-wide and org-level All Hands, AMAs, leadership offsites, Slack campaigns, email cascades, toolkits, and our internal intranet
- Guide internal communications during periods of change, ensuring messages are clear, well-sequenced, and aligned to our values
- Regularly partner with the external communications team on milestones, including product launches, customer progress, and corporate activities (e.g., quarterly earnings, M&A)
- Establish strong operating rhythms, measurement, and feedback loops to continuously improve employee understanding and engagement
Requirements
- 15+ years of experience in internal communications, HR/employee communications, corporate communications, or related fields
- Proven experience leading and scaling high-performing teams
- Exceptional writing, editing, and narrative-building skills with a high bar for craft and fluency in leveraging AI tools to accelerate team impact
- Strong executive presence and experience partnering directly with senior leaders
- Demonstrated ability to navigate organizational change with clarity, empathy, and credibility
- Strategic mindset with strong business acumen and ability to connect communications to company priorities
- Excellent judgment, attention to detail, and ability to operate effectively in complex, fast-moving environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading internal comms at a high-growth or transformation-stage company
- Background in creative storytelling, campaigns, or brand-adjacent comms

Virtual First
Dropbox’s Virtual First way of working is designed to help people do their best work with flexibility, autonomy, and connection. Day to day, teams work remotely with nonlinear schedules and core collaboration hours that support deep focus and individual working styles. We prioritize asynchronous communication to improve clarity, respect deep work time, and reduce unnecessary meetings. While remote work is the primary experience for our employees, we also prioritize intentional, in-person connection. We bring teams together through regular team gatherings, on-demand workspaces, and Dropbox Neighborhood events in order to strengthen team cohesion, foster creativity, and enhance momentum. Virtual First is built to provide the same access to opportunity, growth, and impact for everyone, regardless of location.
This role requires travel to offsites and various other team gatherings (approximately 5-10% of the year or 2-3 days per quarter). We provide advance notice when possible and encourage candidates to discuss any accommodation needs during the interview process.
Dropbox supports responsible use of AI for preparation, but misrepresentation of skills or experience is not permitted. See our AI Principles.
Dropbox is an equal opportunity employer. We are a welcoming place for everyone, and we do our best to make sure all people feel supported and connected at work.
