Meta’s Product Counsel organization provides strategic legal advice and risk mitigation to product, engineering, and business teams across Meta’s family of products and services. The organization partners cross-functionally to address complex, novel legal issues in a fast-paced, innovative environment, and influences product and business decisions at scale. This individual will be part of the Instagram Product Counseling team and will be responsible for providing strategic legal advice to internal product and business teams, primarily in connection with Content & Discovery Safety, Integrity, and Regulatory Readiness. The role requires the development and application of evolving legal frameworks to new products and services, as well as a willingness to learn complex technical systems. Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable. Associate General Counsel, Product (Instagram) Responsibilities:
- Provide and lead practical, strategic legal advising to product, engineering, and business teams across Meta’s global products and initiatives
- Analyze new products, features, and business models to identify and mitigate legal risks across multiple jurisdictions
- Advise on a broad range of legal subject areas, including consumer protection, data protection, privacy, competition, intellectual property, and emerging legal frameworks
- Drive high-profile, high-impact projects involving legal analysis and compliance with cross-functional stakeholders (business, policy, legal, communications, security, etc.)
- Influence product and business decisions, ensuring alignment with legal and regulatory requirements
- Proactively identify and address potential legal roadblocks, developing plans to mitigate risks
- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution
- Active and in good standing bar license in at least one U.S. state or equivalent foreign bar license. Where the jurisdiction of licensure differs from the location in which the role is based, the ability to promptly obtain permission to practice law for Meta in that location
- 8+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney, including at a law firm, in-house, or in government
- Demonstrated experience providing legal advice on technology, internet, or media products and services
- Experience with advertising, privacy, data protection, consumer protection, competition, and/or intellectual property laws and regulations
- Effective communication, legal-writing, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated business judgment, client counseling, and strategic thinking skills
- Proven track record of delivering results with large-scale, cross-functional projects in a fast-paced environment
- Experience making decisions in the face of ambiguity and evolving priorities
- Product, privacy, or integrity counseling experience
- Demonstrated experience with global safety, integrity, and content regulations such as the Digital Services Act and Online Safety. Act, and regional equivalents
- Regulatory readiness experience, specifically the proactive development of company-wide regulatory response strategies
