The Ophthalmic Precision Optics (OPO) team is a part of Reality Labs at Meta. We focus on engineering and integrating 3D printed ophthalmic lenses and optically clear components into Meta's AI and AR glasses. As an OPO Product Engineer, you will be crucial in delivering advanced Augmented Reality (AR) hardware technology to Meta’s customers. You will engineer and productize novel optical components such as ophthalmic lenses for consumer AR hardware, leveraging Meta’s novel optical additive manufacturing technology. You will collaborate with a global team and have the opportunity to impact millions of customers through your work.

Lens Product Engineer, Ophthalmic Precision Optics Responsibilities:

  • Design and engineer novel optical components and products with Meta’s internal 3D printing technology
  • Define and execute print strategies including novel designs, print recipes and post processing steps in order to meet product requirements
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure optical components such as lenses can integrate into Meta’s product roadmap
  • Collaborate closely with materials, software and process teams across the globe to develop prototypes and lens architectures
  • Establish metrology processes, and evaluate printed parts against product Key Performance Indicators with state-of-the art metrology
  • Work in R&D labs and manufacturing environments to evaluate and de-risk new lens designs for prototypes and products
  • Analyze data and present project status, results, and risks to stakeholders and leadership

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters’ in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering or equivalent
  • 2+ years of industry experience in consumer electronics or similar high-volume industries
  • Experience in 3D modeling using CAD tools (Fusion, Solidworks, or equivalent)
  • Experience with engineering and metrology of optical components
  • Hands-on experience building part and assembly prototypes utilizing 3D printing
  • Capacity to work in a rapid high-ownership environment to solve ambiguous problems
  • Capacity to travel up to 25% of the time (domestic and international)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience working on ophthalmic lenses for consumer applications
  • 2+ years of experience working on AR/VR optical technologies
  • Expertise in optical metrology tools and methodologies
  • Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence for Designs

$118,000/year to $170,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
