Role
Fever is seeking a freelance technical coordinator to support We Call it Ballet - Sleeping Beauty. This person will oversee and support local teams in implementing the technical elements of the production. We Call it Ballet pops up in traditional and non-traditional venues all over the world for short runs. The show design is standardized, but each city has its own team that mounts the production.
Working alongside Fever producers, the technical coordinator will provide all-around technical support to make sure we have the personnel and equipment needed to run the show, and will provide guidance to the local technicians. The ideal candidate for this position is a Stage Manager, Technician, Designer, Producer or Director with an intermediate understanding of theatrical lighting, and basic understanding of audio and costumes. They do not have to be an expert in these fields, but do need the vocabulary, experience and taste to be able to communicate effectively with technicians.
The role starts as soon as possible, and will be needed now through December. It will require remote work as well as frequent travel for short trips to cities where the events are happening. Estimated 20 working hours per week, with 6 days of travel per month including some weekends.
Responsibilities include:
- Work closely with the producer to launch the events
- Compare technical riders from venues with our production design needs
- Work with producer to source equipment and staff as needed
- Improve documentation for local technical teams to implement our design
- Work on-site with lighting and audio technicians during focus and tech to implement design
- Work on-site with stagehands to install Marley dance floor and curtains, as needed
- Work with Stage Manager to ensure a smooth, on-time show
- Work with Seamstress and Stage Manager to ensure that costumes are fitted and functional
Preferred Qualifications:
- Significant production experience in live events (theatre, dance, concerts, and/or conferences)
- An understanding of the basics of the technical and creative aspects of lighting, sound, and costume design.
- Strong written communication skills and proficiency with google workplace (docs, slides, etc).
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create a team environment in a short amount of time
- Personality traits: Calm under pressure with a problem-solving mindset
