About the Role
We are seeking a technically skilled Principal Software Solution Engineer to join our HPE Mist team, responsible for designing, testing, and automating full-stack enterprise networking solutions. This role sits at the intersection of Sales, Product, and Engineering. At the Principal level, this role goes beyond individual contributions. The candidate will define technical direction, mentor engineers, and serve as the authoritative voice on solution architecture spanning Wireless, AI-driven NAC, Wired (EVPN-VXLAN), and SD-WAN/WAN Assurance.
You will partner with executive stakeholders, product leadership, and key enterprise customers to shape the roadmap, resolve the most complex customer escalations, and build scalable automation frameworks that raise the engineering bar across the organization
What you’ll do:
Responsibilities
- Serve as SME for HPE Mist AI-Native solutions (Wireless, Wired, WAN Assurance, Security) and lead customer-facing POCs, pilot deployments, and site cutovers in close collaboration with Sales and Product teams.
- Serve as the highest-level escalation point for complex customer issues across SD-WAN, WAN Assurance, Wireless, Wired, and Security; lead RCA and deliver systemic fixes that prevent recurrence at scale
- Drive strategic POC and pilot engagements with top-tier enterprise and service provider customers; influence deal outcomes by demonstrating deep platform mastery and building long-term customer confidence in HPE Mist solutions.
- Design, deploy, and validate SD-WAN/WAN Assurance features including AppQoE, Dynamic Path Selection, Traffic Steering, IPsec VPN, NAT, Firewall, and QoS across hybrid WAN and multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Replicate full stack enterprise topologies (EX Series, SRX, Session Smart Router) and validate routing protocols (BGP, OSPF) and security policies aligned to customer use cases.
- Develop Python/REST API test automation against the Mist cloud platform covering wireless, wired, and WAN telemetry scenarios; write test plans, design specs, and reusable deployment validation playbooks.
- Leverage AI tools Marvis VNA, GitHub Copilot, and Claude to accelerate automation, root cause analysis, and deployment workflows.
- Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders; produce validated design guides and automation assets for reuse across the team.
What you need to bring:
Qualifications
- 12+ years of progressive experience in network engineering, solution architecture, or software engineering in enterprise networking; BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Proficiency in Python and REST API automation; experience with python or equivalent language.
- Strong OS fundamentals and SaaS architecture knowledge on AWS, GCP, and Azure.
- Experience validating SD-WAN, IPsec VPN, NAT, QoS, AppQoE, BGP, and OSPF in enterprise environments.
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP and standard protocols (ARP, ICMP, TCP, UDP); excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with Big Data tools (Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.

- HPE/Juniper certifications: JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIP, or HPE Mist AI Wireless/WAN.
- Experience with Mist AI APIs, Marvis Actions, or HPE SilverPeak.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions) for network automation.
