Role Description
A Legal and Policy Counsel is responsible for giving legal advice, guidance, and strategic direction on a wide range of legal and policy issues relevant to the gaming business. This position necessitates a thorough awareness of gaming laws, regulations, and industry standards, as well as the ability to analyse and assess legal and policy risks in a fast-paced and dynamic setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable gaming laws, regulations, and industry guidelines. Conduct legal research and analysis to identify potential legal risks and provide recommendations for compliance. Legal Compliance cost <2 lakhs per quarter.
Contract Review and Negotiation: Review, draft, and negotiate various contracts and agreements, including licensing agreements, publishing agreements, distribution agreements, and terms of service. Ensure compliance with legal requirements and protect the company's interests.
Intellectual Property Protection: Assist in the protection and management of intellectual property rights, including trademarks, copyrights, and patents. Conduct trademark searches, prepare applications, and monitor and enforce IP rights.
Regulatory and Licensing Matters: Assist with obtaining and maintaining gaming licences and permits. Liaise with regulatory bodies, respond to inquiries, and ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements.Procurement of certifications affirming legal compliance from esteemed and accredited firms across diverse operational facets
Policy Development: Develop and implement internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Stay up to date with industry trends, legislative changes, and emerging issues affecting the gaming industry.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify legal and policy risks associated with new initiatives, products, or partnerships. Provide guidance and recommendations on risk mitigation strategies and best practices.
Dispute Resolution: Assist in resolving legal disputes, including intellectual property disputes, contract disputes, and consumer complaints. Work closely with internal teams and external legal counsel to achieve favourable outcomes.
External Relations: Represent the company's interests in external forums, industry associations, and regulatory proceedings. Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including government agencies, industry partners, and legal counsel. Web 3 (non-exchange association) to become leading body for government interactions on policy making across centre/state:% meetings attended by IndiGG which have been called by Government (state/centre) INDIGG attended.
Qualifications:
First law degree (LLB/JD) from an accredited law school and a valid license to practice law.
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a legal counsel in the gaming industry or a related field. Familiarity with the unique legal and regulatory challenges of the gaming industry is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of laws, regulations, and industry guidelines. Stay updated with changes in gaming legislation and industry practices.
Experience in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating various contracts and agreements, preferably in the gaming or technology sector.
Familiarity with intellectual property laws, including copyright, trademark, and patent protection.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess legal and policy risks and provide practical solutions.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Proven ability to work independently and make sound judgments, while also knowing when to escalate issues to senior management or external legal counsel.
