Hi there! Thanks for stopping by 👋

Are you actively looking for a new opportunity? Or just checking the market? Well… you might just be in the right place!

We’re looking for a Senior Software Developer (Platform) to join our team in Auckland. In this role, you will use your technical knowledge and software/systems engineering skills to create innovative solutions and help elevate our performance. The Platform Team's work greatly boosts our merchants' business efficiency and makes it easier for engineers to reach their goals with minimal hassle. You will be responsible for helping keep Lightspeed's infrastructure reliable and always available and ensuring developers have a smooth and satisfying experience, enabling them to work efficiently and deliver excellent products quickly.

Engineering at Lightspeed:

Lightspeed's retail platform runs on advanced, dockerised cloud infrastructure, handling 120,000 requests per minute and serving customers worldwide. We've been using microservices for a long time, creating over 140 of them. Unlike many companies that only talk about Continuous Delivery, we actually practice it every day, deploying updates around 130 times daily without any human intervention.

What you’ll be doing:

Technical Delivery:

  • Write and review code, fix bugs, and respond to incidents.
  • Troubleshoot and analyse root causes of production issues.
  • Contribute to enhancing cloud infrastructure and provide technical documentation.

Planning and Architecture:

  • Estimate and collaborate on plans with Platform Engineers.
  • Automate tasks to reduce manual work and improve CI/CD reliability.
  • Identify and eliminate inefficiencies to enable developers to ship code faster.

Learning and Helping Others:

  • Assist engineering teams with service provisioning and requests.
  • Facilitate training sessions and create documentation.
  • Share technical knowledge and offer support to fellow engineers.

And a little bit of…

  • Contributing as part of the wider team to achieve organisational objectives even if this means doing things that aren’t strictly within the scope of your role!

Please note that you will take part in our On-Call rotation roster.

What you need to bring:

We're looking for a candidate who has experience with the following:

  • Extensive development experience using various languages, preferably a mix of scripting (e.g., Python) and compiled languages (e.g., Go).
  • Some exposure to public Cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, Azure, or OpenStack.
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef, or Ansible, and familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Proficiency in managing Linux systems and Bash scripting.
  • Strong grasp of modern development strategies like CI/CD and DevOps principles, along with proficiency in managing RDBMS databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and working with git-based projects.
  • Demonstrated track record of successes and failures contributing to better decision-making.
  • Good understanding of Docker or container orchestration techniques.

We know that people are more than what’s on their CV. If you’re unsure that you have the right profile for the role... hit the ‘Apply’ button and give it a try!
