Director Sales– Japan (HPEFS Business)

Overview:
We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Sales Leader to manage and develop our sales organization in Japan for HPE Financial Services. This role involves leading a team of sales professionals across various functions, setting strategic direction, and driving revenue growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial services, proven leadership experience, and the ability to develop long-term client relationships at the executive level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a group of sales professionals in one or more of the Sales Functions (account management, territory sales, vertical industry, specialties). Responsible for setting the direction and managing the team’s deliverables to meet revenue and expense objectives.
  • Set quotas and goals for the sales organization, develop tactics to generate new sales, and coordinate all sales activities within the region.
  • Build strategic external relationships with clients’ executives and internal stakeholders, partnering with internal resources to develop best-in-class solutions aligned with customer needs.
  • Resolve customer problems and participate in key negotiations with important clients, acting as an escalation point when necessary.
  • Drive business growth, market share, and revenue increases by developing and executing regional sales strategies.
  • Develop sales resources and management talent to ensure a pipeline of qualified sales talent supporting future growth, including implementation of master pipeline management.
  • Ensure optimum sales coverage through direct and partner channels, including solution partners, sales specialists, resellers, etc.
  • Build lasting, consultative relationships with customer accounts and industry leaders.
  • Proactively manage change and support sales teams in developing key and difficult account opportunities.
  • Build long-term growth opportunities using the Account Business Planning process.
  • Develop and enhance solution-selling capabilities within the organization to articulate the value of the broad portfolio and differentiate the company’s offerings.
  • Align resource deployment to end-to-end selling support, ensuring coverage across solutions, partners, and channels.
  • Demonstrate industry thought leadership by understanding vertical segment dynamics and representing the company externally in industry, community, and press engagements.
  • Engage with Global Business Unit Sales Teams (Specialists, Channel, and Alliance Partners) to leverage all product and technology offerings.
  • Create and manage resource plans, including staffing the sales team to pursue and close opportunities, and sustain existing revenue streams.
  • Balance short-term results with long-term strategic planning and resource investment.
  • Lead technology-driven innovation and apply solutions to new business challenges, fostering a culture of high performance.
  • Create a high-performance sales culture to ensure the company has the best IT sales force in the industry.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA or similar) preferred.
  • 10-15 years of industry experience with a proven track record of business growth and market expansion.
  • 5-10 years of sales management and leadership experience, preferably within financial services or related sectors.
  • Demonstrated results in developing and executing sales strategies, managing P&L, and leading teams.
  • Deep industry knowledge of financial services, banking, leasing, or related fields in Japan.

  • Competitive Positioning & Strategy: Use intelligence to develop counter-strategies against competitors.
  • Solution Selling: Approach sales from a business solutions perspective, emphasizing value and differentiation.
  • Business & Financial Acumen: Develop meaningful recommendations; understand portfolio and balance sheet drivers.
  • Change Management: Advocate for innovation and organizational change.
  • Problem Solving: Apply sound strategies for comprehensive issue resolution.
  • Global Presence: Represent the company effectively on global accounts with cultural sensitivity.
  • Leadership: Lead effectively in complex environments, influence without authority, and build high-performing teams.
