Job Description:

This position is an on-site position. The Test Technician performs and documents environmental, mechanical (dynamic), and electromagnetic testing in a professional laboratory environment. This role is responsible for executing test procedures, supporting test setup and equipment operation, and accurately documenting results in accordance with established quality, safety, and international compliance requirements. The Test Technician works collaboratively with engineers, customers (as applicable), and other technicians to support product qualification and regulatory compliance testing. Reads/interprets schematics, printouts and specifications as needed to complete tests to determine the functionality of function area. Ensures testing instruments are calibrated and verified on a regular basis. Participates with the debugging and troubleshooting of new and existing procedures, equipment, products etc. Creates new test programs/procedures as needed for new technology.

Applies developed knowledge of the job skills, company policies and procedures to complete a wide variety of difficult assignments/tasks. Thorough understanding of the general/technical aspects of the job. Works on assignments that are moderately complex in nature and require ordinary problem resolution. Works under limited supervision and normally receives no instruction on routine work and general instructions given for new assignments.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Perform environmental and mechanical (dynamic) testing, including vibration, mechanical shock, drop, package performance, and seismic simulation.
    • Support electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing activities, including emissions and immunity testing, as assigned.
    • Assemble, configure, and modify test setups using fixtures, hand tools, and basic power tools.
    • Install, position, and secure accelerometers and other instrumentation in accordance with test procedures and customer requirements.
    • Monitor test execution and record results, observations, and anomalies following established reporting procedures.
    • Accurately document test results and other relevant data in compliance with established quality system and reporting requirements.
    • Perform basic PC, software, and test equipment troubleshooting.
    • Perform preventative maintenance and equipment validations on lab-maintained equipment.
    • Track and maintain calibration status of laboratory equipment within assigned areas of responsibility.
    • Follow written procedures, safety guidelines, and quality system requirements at all times.
    • Collaborate with engineers, customers, and other technicians to support multiple projects concurrently.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
    • Ability to stand, bend, lift, and work with equipment for extended periods.
    • Ability to work in a laboratory environment with operating mechanical systems and elevated noise levels (protective equipment provided).

    Education and Experience Required:

    • Associate degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline; OR
    • 3+ years of relevant hands-on experience in a laboratory, manufacturing validation, environmental testing, or similar technical environment; OR
    • An equivalent combination of education and relevant hands-on experience totaling 3+ years.

    Required Knowledge and Skills:

    • Ability to work and communicate effectively in a team-based environment.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
    • Basic PC, software, and hardware troubleshooting skills.
    • Self-motivated with the ability to manage assigned tasks independently.
    • Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and reliability.
    • Strong safety awareness and a “safety-first” mindset when working with mechanical systems, high voltage, and other potential hazards.
    • Experience using basic hand tools, small power tools, and/or pneumatic tools.
    • Experience assembling or working with fixtures or mechanical test setups.
    • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

    Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

    • Forklift operation experience.
    • Prior experience with dynamic testing (vibration, shock, drop, package performance, and/or seismic testing).
    • Basic network troubleshooting experience.
    • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude (e.g., equipment repair, automotive work, or similar hands-on activities).
    • Education or training in electro-mechanical systems.
    • Experience working with accelerometers, including placement, affixation, and instrumentation cable routing and management.
