L2 Networking Support Engineer

This role has been designed as ‘Hybrid’ with an expectation that you will work on average 2 days per week from an HPE office.

Job Description:

Responsibilities:

This position is part of GCX (Global Customer Experience) and supports customer-reported issues across our cutting-edge networking, wireless, AI and software platforms. As part of the team, you will:

  • Support our products by working directly with knowledgeable customers and partners.
  • Take ownership of problem resolution, reproduction, and escalation.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues by recreating customer networking environments in internal labs.
  • Act as a customer advocate to ensure timely resolution, escalating issues with clear details on impact, analysis performed, and customer expectations.
  • Maintain clear, ongoing documentation of issues, customer network environments and topology, business and technical impact, troubleshooting steps, findings, and root cause analysis.
  • Learn quickly and keep pace with emerging technologies.
  • Share knowledge by writing knowledge base articles.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience troubleshooting, implementing, and supporting IP networks, preferably in enterprise environments.
  • Experience interacting directly with global customers is highly desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills; knowledge of another European language is a plus.

Primary Skills:

  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems, file systems, and advanced commands.
  • Understanding of, and troubleshooting experience with:
  • IP packet flow, OSI layers, TCP/IP, and IPv4/IPv6 addressing
  • Utilities such as Ping and Traceroute, including usage of filters
  • IP routing protocols (BGP, OSPF)
  • Layer 2 technologies (Ethernet, 802.1q/p VLAN, STP, RSTP, ARP, LACP)
  • Understanding of wireless standards
  • Knowledge of Syslog protocol
    • Knowledge of application layer protocols (SNMP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP)
    • Knowledge of Network Access Control (NAC) and policy management platforms
  • Platform knowledge: Experience with Juniper, Aruba, Cisco, Alcatel, or Huawei platforms.
  • Basic knowledge of tools such as traffic generators or simulators (Ixia, Agilent), protocol analysers, and testers.
  • Preferred certifications: CCNA or higher, JNCIA-Junos or higher, Aruba Associate or higher.
