Job Description
Jira Technical Architect
Pune/Noida/Bangalore/Chennai, India
Position Summary:
As a Jira Technical Architect, you will lead the architecture, integration, and configuration of advanced Jira solutions, including custom development using ScriptRunner with Groovy. This role is critical in defining the technical roadmap, ensuring architectural best practices, and ensuring seamless delivery of dynamic, database-driven, and integrated solutions within the Jira ecosystem. You will collaborate with developers, product teams, and team members to ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with organisational needs.
You will report to the Engineering Manager - IT, and work in a hybrid capacity from our Pune/Bangalore/Noida/Chennai, India office.
Your Responsibilities:
- Define and lead the technical architecture for Jira-integrated solutions, including custom ScriptRunner development.
- Provide technical oversight and governance across the full development lifecycle: planning, design, implementation, and support.
- Stay current with Atlassian ecosystem updates, tools, and APIs.
- Lead Jira migrations, including plugins, Java versions, and script libraries.
- Manage deployment and upgrades of system and custom plugins.
- Define best practices for plugin development and modular architecture.
- Integrate databases (e.g., JSON, MySQL) with Jira for data-driven applications.
- Configure advanced Jira features: custom fields, workflows, screens, permissions, issue types, automation, and notifications.
- Guide development teams on Groovy scripting, plugin architecture, and data visualisation within Jira.
- Ensure compliance with Atlassian performance, security, and deployment standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Jira functionality, plugin behaviour, and system integrations.
- Maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and configuration playbooks.
- Act as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams, translating business needs into Jira-based solutions.
- Project manage the entire development process.
The Essentials – You Will Have:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 8–10 years of IT experience with a focus on Jira administration and technical architecture.
- In-depth knowledge of Jira Server/Data Center, ScriptRunner, Groovy, and Atlassian SDK.
- Hands-on experience with custom integrations, especially MySQL and JSON.
- Experience with Jira plugin architecture and REST APIs.
- Experience designing and implementing large-scale Jira solutions.
- Familiarity with front-end technologies (JavaScript, HTML, CSS) for UI/UX elements in Jira.
- Experience with Jira performance tuning, scalability planning, and high availability deployments.
- Proficient in change management, release planning, and version control (e.g., Git).
- Experience approaching a problem from different angles, analysing pros and cons of different solutions.
The Preferred – You Might Also Have:
- Atlassian certifications such as ACP-100 (Jira Admin).
- Experience with other Atlassian tools (Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo).
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines for plugin deployment.
- Familiarity with cloud migrations and Jira Cloud limitations/benefits.
- Exposure to Agile/Scrum or SAFe environments.
