Job Description

Rockwell Automation's Process Technology (PT) business is a specialist division. We design and implement high-tech, process-centric projects across the Life Sciences, Chemical, Consumer Goods, Oil & Gas, and Energy sectors.

Reporting to the Process Team Lead, you will help integrate detailed process, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation designs to deliver novel, end-to-end project solutions. You will develop both your core process engineering fundamentals and advanced process modelling capabilities. You will work with tools such as Aspen® simulation software, Mathcad®, Ansys®, and Autodesk® products, alongside AI-assisted engineering tools to enhance your skills and expertise.

  • Process Design, Simulation & Technical Delivery
    • Support execution of design studies across concept, basic, and detailed design phases
    • Maintain design deliverables including PFDs, P&IDs, equipment lists, and process descriptions
    • Perform process simulations and engineering calculations using tools such as Aspen® and Mathcad® to support:
    • Mass and energy balances
    • Equipment and line sizing
    • Pressure relief device sizing and hydraulic analysis
    • Use simulation outputs to validate designs, improve performance, and support engineering decisions
    • Support evaluation of Best Available Technologies (BAT) and process optimisation opportunities

Project Delivery and Coordination

  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to differant engineering teams
  • Coordinate with other disciplines i.e. (EC&I, Automation, Mechanical, and Validation) to provide integrated solutions
  • Support development of scope of work packages and engineering deliverables
  • Ensure resolution of process technical queries (TQs)

Safety, Compliance and Standards

  • Ensure all designs comply with client specifications, SOPs, and applicable standards (e.g., PED, ATEX, and GMP)
  • Support HAZOP preparation, participation, and close-out activities
  • Contribute to Hazardous Area Classification studies
  • Support process safety design, including pressure relief and safeguarding requirements

Commissioning & Site Support

  • Help develop and witness commissioning and startup protocols
  • Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for process equipment and packaged systems
  • Participate in site commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities
  • Provide on-site engineering support to construction and operations teams

Plan, Commercial & Quality

  • Help develop engineering cost estimates and inputs to sales proposals
  • Track engineering hours against project budgets, ensuring delivery within scope, schedule, and cost targets
  • Identify and contribute to Design Change Requests (DCRs), including assessment of technical and commercial impacts
  • Ensure adherence to the Rockwell Automation Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Maintain process SOPs and engineering documentation
  • Ensure compliance with required training and applicable company procedures
  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with relevant local, national, client, and international standards

The essentials - you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree or Better in Chemical / Process Engineering or a related discipline
  • Open to graduates or those looking to transitioning into a digital / simulation-focused design role with 1+ years experience
  • Demonstrate interested in - Process Design / Simulations / Sustainability / Functional Safety
  • A "can-do" approach, demonstrate ownership and quality work
  • Work with other engineering teams i.e. (EC&I, Automation, Mechanical, and Validation)
  • Willingness to travel internationally
  • Support on-site construction, commissioning, and startup activities
  • Full, clean driver's licence required

You might also have:

  • Exposure to project engineering or project delivery environments (desirable)
  • Experience or familiarity with process simulation tools (e.g. Aspen® suite) (desirable)
  • Familiarity with engineering calculation tools (e.g. Mathcad®) (desirable)
  • Exposure to 3D design / CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD® / Autodesk® products) (desirable)
