About the Role

We are seeking a data-driven, commercially minded Network Operations / Payment Operations Manager to own and optimize our network of payment service providers (PSPs), digital eWallets, alternative payment methods (APMs), and direct bank payment rails (instant bank transfers, direct debits, open banking). In this role, you will act as the principal merchant-side account manager for our non-card payment ecosystem, driving conversion optimization, operational reliability, volumes and fee auditing, and performance tracking across our payment infrastructure.

You will sit at the intersection of Finance, Product, Engineering, and External Strategic Partners, ensuring our payment flow achieves maximum success rates while keeping transaction processing costs optimized.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Partner & Account Management (Merchant Side)

  • Serve as the primary operational and commercial point of contact for our portfolio of payment partners (PSPs, eWallet providers, APM vendors, aggregator partners, and direct banking partners).
  • Lead recurring business reviews (QBRs) with key partners to review operational SLAs, success rates, technical availability, and commercial roadmap alignment.
  • Manage end-to-end partner onboarding, contract maintenance, compliance verification, and administrative operational requests (e.g., KYB/KYC updates, bank account configurations).
  • Continuously evaluate the local and global alternative payment landscape to identify new eWallets, instant bank rails, or open banking capabilities to expand payment coverage and redundancy.

2. Conversion Optimization & Routing Strategy

  • Monitor, analyze, and optimize global conversion, completion, and authorization rates across all PSPs, eWallets, and bank transfer flows.
  • Identify root causes for transaction drops, checkout abandonments, bank connection drops, and gateway errors across different geographies.
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering to design and refine dynamic payment routing logic, fallback/retry mechanisms, and payment method prioritization engines.
  • Conduct continuous performance testing on partner checkout flows, API response times, and redirect success rates to maximize checkout completion.

3. Commercial Management, Fees & Negotiations

  • Track, audit, and reconcile monthly partner volume, processing fees, payout fees, payout batch schedules, and FX margins against contractual terms.
  • Lead contract renegotiations, fee restructuring, and volume-tiered discount discussions with PSPs and wallet partners as processing volumes grow.
  • Maintain comprehensive benchmark models comparing processing costs (flat fees, percentage fees, fixed bank rail charges) across partners and regions.
  • Identify cost-reduction opportunities without compromising settlement speeds, success rates, or system resilience.

4. Operational Monitoring, Incident Management & Escalations

  • Establish and track core operational KPIs, including uptime, API latency, success rates, refund turnaround times, and payout settlement timelines.
  • Act as the primary internal escalation point during payment gateway outages, degraded bank rail performance, or partner API disruptions.
  • Lead post-mortem analysis with partner technical and operations teams following service disruptions to enforce SLAs and implement preventive measures.
  • Work with internal Finance, Risk, and Treasury teams to track settlement reconciliation, liquidity availability, and payout clearance times across wallet and bank connections.
  • Work with internal Compliance and Risk teams to handle RFIs from partners in a timely fashion.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: 5–8 years of direct experience in Payment Operations, Network Operations, or Partner Management within FinTech, e-Commerce, Marketplaces, SaaS, or high-volume digital platforms.
  • Domain Expertise: Deep knowledge of non-card payment rails, including PSP infrastructures, local and global digital eWallets, Open Banking, Instant Bank Transfers (e.g., ACH, SEPA Instant, Pix, UPI), Direct Debits, and local APMs (eWallets, Mobile Money, QR codes etc).
  • Conversion Analytics: Proven track record of analyzing conversion funnels, error codes, and technical failure points in API/redirect-based payment flows to drive success rate improvements.
  • Commercial Acumen: Hands-on experience negotiating processing agreements, fee structures (fixed/variable/payout fees), and holding partners accountable to strict SLAs.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency with SQL, Excel/Google Sheets, and Data Visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, Power BI) to analyze large transaction datasets.
  • Communication: Strong commercial and partner-facing skills—ability to manage external partner account executives assertively while presenting clear performance insights to internal leadership.
