Your work will directly support the seamless integration of battery systems into aircraft and help bring our next-generation eVTOL aircraft to market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and execute battery test plans for validating the performance, safety, and reliability of battery systems, including charge/discharge cycles, thermal testing, and longevity tests.
- Develop and implement testing protocols for individual cells, battery packs, and Battery Management Systems (BMS).
- Work closely with electrical, propulsion, and systems engineers to ensure battery systems are compatible with the eVTOL aircraft's powertrain and avionics.
- Conduct integration testing to validate system-level interactions and battery system performance under real-world conditions.
- Ensure battery systems meet all regulatory requirements and safety standards for aviation, including thermal runaway, overcharging, undercharging, and short-circuiting.
- Prepare comprehensive test reports and documentation for regulatory bodies to support the certification process.
- Analyze battery performance data and ensure that all results meet specifications for energy efficiency, charge cycles, and thermal behavior.
- Identify potential risks and performance issues and provide actionable recommendations for improvement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address any battery-related issues and support development and troubleshooting efforts.
- Communicate test results, issues, and improvements to stakeholders, ensuring clarity and transparency in all processes.
- Stay up to date on the latest battery technologies, testing methods, and industry trends.
- Provide insights and suggestions for integrating new technologies to improve battery performance, efficiency, and safety.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in battery testing, validation, and safety within the aerospace, automotive, or energy industries.
- Hands-on experience with battery technologies (e.g., lithium-ion, solid-state) and testing protocols for high-performance applications.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, battery management systems (BMS), and energy storage technologies.
- Experience with test equipment (e.g., environmental chambers, battery cyclers) and data acquisition systems.
- Familiarity with aviation safety standards and regulatory requirements related to battery systems (e.g., FAA, EASA).
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and recommend solutions.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with electric propulsion systems and their integration into aircraft.
- Knowledge of solid-state batteries or next-generation battery technologies.
- Experience with root cause analysis and troubleshooting in a high-voltage system environment.
