About Sarla Aviation:
Sarla Aviation is at the forefront of revolutionizing urban air mobility with its cutting-edge eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-off and Landing) aircraft featuring innovative tilt-rotor technology. As a pioneer in sustainable, efficient, and safe air transportation systems, Sarla Aviation is dedicated to shaping the future of aviation. We are seeking a skilled and driven Guidance & Navigation Engineer to join our expanding team and play a key role in the success of our eVTOL program.
Job Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Guidance & Navigation Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of the aircraft’s navigation, guidance, and estimation systems. In this role, you will architect robust and fault-tolerant G&N solutions that ensure precise aircraft positioning, trajectory control, and mission reliability across all phases of flight. You will collaborate closely with the flight controls, avionics, and systems teams to achieve integrated performance and compliance with certification requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect, design, and optimize guidance and navigation systems for eVTOL aircraft ensuring safety, accuracy, and robustness.
- Develop and implement advanced sensor fusion algorithms (IMU, GNSS, magnetometer, barometer, radar/LiDAR, etc.) for state estimation and fault-tolerant navigation.
- Design and tune guidance laws and trajectory generation algorithms for VTOL, transition, and forward-flight modes.
- Develop state estimation frameworks (e.g., EKF, UKF, particle filters) for aircraft attitude, position, and velocity estimation.
- Conduct modelling, simulation, and Monte Carlo analysis to assess guidance and navigation performance under various operating conditions and sensor failure scenarios.
- Define G&N system requirements, interfaces, and performance metrics; ensure alignment with system-level architecture and safety standards.
- Collaborate with flight controls, propulsion, and avionics teams for system integration and end-to-end performance validation.
- Support HIL/PIL testing, flight test campaigns, and post-flight data analysis to validate and refine G&N algorithms.
- Prepare and maintain detailed documentation for design reviews, safety assessments, and certification compliance (e.g., DO-178C, DO-254).
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and implement innovations in navigation and guidance techniques suitable for advanced air mobility platforms.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Aerospace, Avionics, or Control Systems Engineering (or equivalent).
- 6+ years of experience in Guidance, Navigation, and Estimation development, preferably within eVTOL, UAV, or AAM domains.
- Strong understanding of flight dynamics, control theory, inertial navigation, and estimation techniques.
- Proven expertise in sensor fusion and GNSS/INS integration.
- Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent modelling and simulation tools.
- Familiarity with safety-critical system design, certification frameworks (FAA/EASA), and software standards such as DO-178C/DO-254.
- Understanding of ADS-33 and its relevance to flight performance and handling qualities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in fault-tolerant navigation, integrity monitoring, and performance-based navigation (PBN) for autonomous systems.
- Experience with autonomous or semi-autonomous aircraft guidance systems.
- Familiarity with air data systems, GNSS corrections and terrain-aided navigation.
- Background in simulation and flight test support, including data acquisition and post-flight analysis.
- Experience with real-time implementation of estimation and navigation algorithms on embedded platforms.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systems thinking abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
