About Sarla Aviation:
Sarla Aviation is at the forefront of revolutionizing urban air mobility with its cutting-edge eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-off and Landing) aircraft featuring innovative tilt-rotor technology. Sarla Aviation, a pioneer in the development of sustainable, efficient, and safe air transportation systems, is dedicated to influencing the future of aviation.
About the Role:
We are seeking an Energy and Powertrain Systems Engineer responsible for aircraft- and system-level development of battery systems (cells, packs, BMS) and electric propulsion systems (motors, motor controllers/inverters), including their interfaces with power distribution, flight controls, and avionics, across the full lifecycle from requirements and architecture through integration, verification, and certification in close collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and manage aircraft- and system-level requirements and architectures for battery and electric propulsion systems in alignment with performance, safety, and certification objectives.
- Decompose and allocate requirements across batteries, BMS, motors, inverters, and power distribution interfaces.
- Develop and maintain powertrain system architectures, operating concepts, and Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
- Contribute to system trade studies covering efficiency, weight, thermal margins, redundancy, and fault tolerance.
- Coordinate cross-functionally to ensure integrated, compliant implementation and aircraft-level integration.
- Participate in design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR), manage system risks, and ensure end-to-end traceability across the development lifecycle.
Typical Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Aerospace, Mechanical, or related engineering disciplines.
- Experience in systems engineering or integration of electric powertrain or energy systems in safety-critical domains.
- Working knowledge of battery systems, electric propulsion architectures, and requirements-driven V-model development.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and cross-functional coordination skills, with the ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience with battery systems (BMS, thermal, safety) and electric propulsion systems (motors, inverters, power electronics).
- Familiarity with aerospace systems engineering standards and airworthiness processes (e.g., ARP4754B, FAA/EASA/DGCA).
- Exposure to MBSE, system modeling, or requirements management tools (e.g., Polarion, MATLAB/Simulink).
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, leadership, and certification authorities.
