The Director of Hardware Product will lead the development and optimization of residential energy hardware solutions. This role will focus on designing and evolving solar, storage, and electrical hardware configurations that maximize customer value, grid impact, and financial performance.

The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in residential solar and energy hardware with strong product strategy skills. This leader will identify the optimal hardware bundles that unlock new market opportunities while improving capital efficiency, operational performance, grid services revenue and customer adoption.

A key aspect of this role is translating complex energy technology into compelling customer experiences ensuring our hardware solutions deliver both logical and emotional value for homeowners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define the strategy for residential solar, storage, and electrical hardware configurations.

  • Identify optimal hardware bundles that maximize customer value, grid services capability, capital efficiency, operational efficiency and total addressable market (TAM)

  • Serve as the internal subject matter expert on residential energy hardware systems.

  • Evaluate emerging hardware technologies and integrate them into product roadmaps.

  • Translate complex technical capabilities into scalable product offerings.

  • Partner with engineering, supply chain, grid services, finance, and operations teams to design high-performing hardware products.

  • Align hardware configurations with financial products and installation capabilities.

  • Ensure hardware offerings support grid service programs and utility partnerships.

  • Develop hardware offerings that resonate with homeowners both functionally and emotionally.

  • Work with marketing and customer experience teams to create compelling narratives around energy independence, resilience, and sustainability.

  • Identify hardware solutions that unlock new markets and use cases.

  • Evaluate how hardware innovations can expand TAM and partner value.

Qualifications

  • 8–12+ years of experience in energy, solar, storage, hardware product management, or electrical systems.

  • Strong technical understanding of residential solar systems, battery storage, electrical infrastructure and home energy management systems

  • Proven experience developing and launching complex hardware products.

  • Strong strategic thinking with the ability to translate technical insights into product strategy.

  • Experience working cross-functionally across engineering, operations, and finance.

  • Passion for building products that accelerate the transition to clean energy.

Starting salary/wage for this opportunity:

$217,477.41 to $289,969.87
