The Role:

As a Network Operations Centre (NOC) Engineer, you will be part of an International team that monitors and maintains more than 14,000 servers and 250 Network devices, spanning multiple Data Centres, across the Globe.

NOC Engineers manage incidents, and troubleshoot and resolve, both routine and complex Network, Hardware, and Operating System issues in a timely and efficient manner. This ensures Proofpoint maintains high levels of Production system Availability & Uptime for our Customers.

Given the global nature of our Business, our NOC Engineers work in a rotating shift pattern, ensuring 24x7 coverage for the Business. This role will primarily support the hours of 06:00-19:00 GMT/BST.

Your day-to-day:

  • Monitoring of internal Production systems.

  • Performing Technical Triage, Diagnosis & Resolution of Incidents received by the NOC.

  • Working Incidents effectively and efficiently to escalate to or engage Operations, Engineering, Support, or other personnel in accordance with established processes and procedures.

  • Document Incident detail and actions taken on Production systems, with accuracy, and in compliance with established practices.

  • Manage, Review and Update the status of all major incidents, within ticketing system, including issuing communications to the business during high impact incidents.

  • Assist in maintaining Operational Standards & Documentation; including runbooks, knowledge base articles, alerting hygiene and general procedures.

  • Participate in the transfer of information from one shift to the next.

  • Participate in service improvement initiatives; including adoption of AI to gain efficiencies in Operational practices, implement positive tooling or procedural changes and monitoring refinement activities.

  • Perform other duties as needed, including, but not limited to; attending Post-Mortem (Problem) Meetings on behalf of NOC, learn from/train others in both Technical and Procedural Operations.

What you bring to the team:

  • Previous experience of working within a Network Operations Centre (NOC) or similar Operations environment, or in a Production Support Role.

  • Knowledge of Linux (Command Line), Server Administration & Troubleshooting.

  • Previous experience with bash and/or Python, or other Linux scripting/programming languages

  • Previous experience with monitoring tools (Splunk, Nagios etc.).

  • Familiarity with ITSM/trouble ticketing systems (Jira, lighthouse, Bugzilla, ServiceNow etc.).

  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, initiative, and leadership abilities.

  • Effective analytical, planning, organizational, and documentation skills.

  • Proven ability to multitask and prioritize, while working under pressure.

  • Experience supporting Fortune 500, Large Global Organizations, or exposure to complex and multi-vendor ecosystems.

  • Experience with Cloud Based and On-Premise Environments.

  • Ability to influence and improve Department processes and tooling, while embracing new ways of working.

Desirable Certifications (not mandatory, but are preferable):

  • LINUX (LPIC-1, CompTIA Linux+ etc.) and/or Microsoft/Microsoft Windows Server (MTA, MCSA etc.) certifications

  • ITIL Foundations v3/v4 or ITIL Specialist/Practitioner certifications or similar.

  • Networking (CCNA, CompTIA Network+, JNCIA, AWS etc.) certifications.
