Job Description:
At Proofpoint you'll lead a team of engineers driving the evolution of our Supplier Threat Protection product. You'll operate at the intersection of engineering, detection, and product development by balancing technical depth with strategic vision. Your team will build systems that protect customers from compromised accounts while empowering rapid incident investigation and remediation.
This role demands technical credibility to evaluate architecture decisions and engineering talent, the judgment to navigate competing priorities across distributed teams, and the conviction to advocate for what is right. You'll shape both the product's technical foundation and the capabilities of the engineers building it.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, grow, and coach team members to build talent over the long term and expand their capablities.
- Identify, recruit, interview, and hire software engineers to help teams scale effectively.
- Take ownership of the product's architecture to ensure cost effectiveness, reliability, scalability, and long term sustainability.
- Partner with product and detection teams to drive improvements to our detection logic to better identify compromised accounts and other classifications
- Eliminate complexity, automate the mundane, and build systems that are easy to maintain and scale.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years of leading an engineering team either as an Engineering Manager or Technical Lead & mentor
- Experience building distributed systems at scale in the cloud
- Experience leading teams that build infrastructure and data products, both backend systems to full stack web applications
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, Scala, or Java
- Command of data technologies such as Kafka, Flink, Airflow, Docker, Kubernetes, Parquet
- Experience with data science or AI/ML projects
- Experience managing geographically distributed or remote teams
- Curiosity, intellectual humility, and a bias for action
