Senior HR Business Partner – India & APJ
Role Purpose
The Senior HR Business Partner – India & APJ provides senior, end-to-end HR leadership for the India region and holds operational HR oversight for Asia and Australia (Singapore, Australia and Japan). Reporting to the Director, HR Business Partner – International, this role ensures strong governance, scalable HR capability, and consistent people practices across India and aligned APJ markets.
The role is accountable for India HR governance and serves as the senior escalation point for India, while acting as a coach, guide and mentor to the HR Generalist in India to enable them to operate at day-to-day HRBP level. Across APJ, the role provides operational and transactional HR partnership in close collaboration with the Director HRBP, supporting the VP of MEA & APAC and regional leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Senior HR Business Partner for India, partnering leaders at Director level and below.
- Serve as the senior escalation point for complex India employee relations, performance, restructures and sensitive casework.
- Partner on workforce planning, organisational design and capability development across India.
- Lead change initiatives aligned to business growth and transformation.
- Ensure compliance with Indian labour legislation including POSH Act, Industrial Disputes Act, EPF, ESI, Gratuity and related regulations.
- Act as POSH Employer Representative, overseeing Internal Committee governance and statutory reporting.
- Partner with Legal and external advisors on audits, inspections, statutory filings and labour authority matters.
- Own India HR governance, ensuring global policy alignment with local adaptation and risk mitigation.
- Act as a coach and mentor to the HR Generalist – India, providing structured guidance and capability development.
- Design and support a development roadmap enabling the HR Generalist to operate at day-to-day HRBP level for India.
- Provide oversight and escalation governance while progressively increasing the HR Generalist’s scope and autonomy.
- Build internal HR capability and succession depth within the India HR function without formal line management accountability.
- Provide operational and transactional HR partnership across Singapore, Australia and Japan.
- Advise regional leaders on employee relations, performance, workforce planning and organisational matters.
- Ensure compliance with local employment legislation across Singapore, Australia and Japan in partnership with Legal and global HR teams.
- Support compliant execution of cross-border workforce changes and restructures within APJ markets.
- Work closely with the Director HRBP – International to support the VP of MEA & APAC and ensure alignment of people strategy across APJ.
Skills & Experience
- 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including significant Senior HRBP experience in India.
- Strong expertise in Indian employment law and high-volume employee relations management.
- Experience operating across multiple geographies or within matrixed global organisations.
- Demonstrated experience coaching and developing HR professionals without formal line management authority.
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to balance strategic and operational priorities.
- Proven ability to influence and coach senior leaders while building organisational capability.
- Ability to operate effectively across time zones and manage competing regional priorities.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business or related discipline. CIPD, SHRM or equivalent certification preferred.
