Join our team as an Automation Specialist and help us understand and tackle cancer!
The Automation Specialist is responsible for effectively running and coordinating the automation platform together with other automation scientists and lab teams. Your goal is to continuously develop and maintain our existing laboratory automation and high-throughput screening protocols. Additionally, troubleshooting and error handling is daily part of the responsibilities. As the automation specialist, you are also driving the downstream data handling and data processing pipeline development alongside lab scientists to deliver a robust quality control report and to handover results to the data engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Laboratory Automation Operations:
Operate, monitor, and maintain automated laboratory instruments. Perform daily startup, calibration, and shutdown procedures on automation systems
- Method development and validation: Support in the development and validation of new automation lab protocols
- Data handling:
Backup and handle data according to standard practices established for data pipelines
- Data pipeline development: Programming and development of data pipelines for quality control and downstream handover to data engineering teams
- Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and support lab scientists during daily operations
- Scheduling and resource management: Work together with other automation scientists and lab teams to assess the needs and coordinate resource needs
- Training: Train basic operative requirements to lab scientists
- Documentation: write SOPs for the validated automation

- Proactively engage with lab scientists to understand their needs and pain points
- Develop new methods and introduce quality of life improvements into existing automation workflows
- Bring innovative ideas to the table that allows for increased efficiency, throughput and/or decreases error frequency/improves error handling
Skills
- Basic coding literacy and comfort working with scripted workflows
- Biology/biochemistry/pharmacology background
- Be familiar with software engineering basic principles (documentation, version control)
- Experience in performing biochemical / cellular microplate-based assays
- Experience in automated liquid handling systems
- Nice-to-have:
microscopy knowledge, Databricks/Snowflake experience, programming knowledge of: Python, Visual Basic Script,
C/C++, experience with ELN/LIMS systems
