LEAD - MEP Planning Engineer (Mechanical) / Project Control Engineer
Mechanical / Electrical Engineer with 8-12 years hands on experience in leading the planning and executing of MEP services for medium to large scale Data Centre projects.
Job location: Hyderabad.
Specialization: BE / B.Tech Mechanical
Experience: 8-12 years of hands-on experience in Data Center / Critical Facility Operations & Maintenance
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead site execution of precision cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH units), chillers, AHUs, chilled water piping, and ductwork as per approved GA/P&ID/SLD drawings.
- Oversee PHE works: domestic water supply, sewage/drainage systems, and plumbing fixtures for admin and support blocks.
- Coordinate false ceiling, duct routing, and structural interfaces with civil, electrical, and BMS teams to avoid clashes and rework.
- Conduct quantity take-offs (QTO) for ducting, piping, insulation, and fire protection BOM against drawings and BOQ.
- Supervise installation of fire protection systems fire hydrant network, sprinklers, clean agent (FM-200/Novec 1230) systems, and FAPA/VESDA in line with NBC and TAC/NFPA norms.
- Monitor daily progress against the master schedule (Gantt/MSP); prepare and update Daily/Weekly Progress Reports (DPR).
- Expert in planning of MEP activities, identifying bottlenecks, guiding the site MEP planning team, daily progress reviews, weekly reviews.
- Ensure effective coordination across design, engineering, and site teams, maintaining alignment with project objectives and standards.
- Oversee site progress, quality, safety, and resource utilization, ensuring timely and efficient project delivery.
- Act as the key interface for clients, consultants, vendors, and contractors, driving resolution of technical and operational challenges.
- Oversee integration of MEP/EMS systems with civil and IT infrastructure for seamless project delivery.
- Strengthen project governance, reporting, and expediting processes, ensuring clear visibility and timely decision-making.
- Participate in daily and weekly review meetings, sharing clear updates and highlighting concerns
- Build and lead a high-performing team, focusing on capability development and a culture of accountability.
- Deliver projects with a strong focus on reliability, operational continuity, and long-term sustainability.
- Maintain and update trackers, dashboards, and progress reports for visibility.
- Focus on critical items and bottlenecks, ensuring timely closure through regular follow-ups.
- Support planning activities and lookahead schedules based on current site status.
- Ensure timely movement of documents, approvals, and key inputs required for execution.
- Provide regular MIS updates (daily/weekly/monthly) to management.
Vendor & Contractor Coordination
- Coordinate manufacturing and delivery schedules for CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, pumps, AHUs, and fire protection equipment with OEMs (e.g., Pennar Industries and similar vendors).
- Review vendor GA drawings, technical submittals, and QAP documents against project specifications and approve for construction.
- Coordinate FAT/inspection at vendor works for major mechanical equipment (chillers, CRAC units, pumps, fire pumps).
- Track subcontractor performance on HVAC, fire protection, and PHE packages; resolve field-level technical queries
Commissioning & Testing
- Plan and execute commissioning of HVAC systems including trial runs, air balancing (TAB), and performance testing of CRAC/CRAH units.
- Prepare and execute commissioning checklists across mechanical sub-systems (chilled water, ducting, fire protection, plumbing) covering the full equipment list and category-wise sign-off.
- Coordinate fire protection system testing: hydrant flow tests, sprinkler flushing, and clean-agent system discharge testing/simulation.
- Support Integrated Systems Testing (IST) by aligning mechanical system readiness with electrical and BMS commissioning timelines.
- Troubleshoot performance issues during trial runs and coordinate corrective actions with OEMs/contractors.
Safety
- Enforce EHS protocols, permit-to-work systems (hot work, confined space, LOTO), and PPE compliance during installation, pressure testing, and commissioning.
Required Qualifications
- Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (Diploma with strong site experience also considered)
- Experience: 812 years in MEP execution/commissioning, with at least 3–5 years specifically on data centre or other mission-critical facility projects
- Certifications (preferred): Uptime Institute ATD, NEBOSH/IOSH (safety), OEM commissioning certifications for HVAC/fire protection systems
- Strong multi-discipline site coordination (civil, electrical, BMS, fire protection)
