Job Description
We are currently seeking an experienced Contract Mechanical Drafter/Designer to join our team on a project basis. This role will be focused on designing and drafting mechanical systems for high-altitude applications. The main responsibilities for this role will be updating drawings per engineering change request and creating engineering change orders. The ideal candidate will be adept at quickly transforming concepts into detailed designs, operationalizing, and ruggedizing off-the-shelf components for use in the stratosphere and maintaining simplicity and modularity in systems.
Role Responsibilities
· Take ownership of current ECR/ECOs backlog, updating legacy drawings to align with contemporary standards.
· Efficiently convert conceptual mechanical designs into detailed technical drawings for high-altitude system components.
· Create and update assembly and sub-assembly drawings using CAD software, focusing on off-the-shelf component adaptation for stratospheric conditions.
· Document all design work meticulously, ensuring adherence to industry and company standards and project requirements.
· Demonstrate high attention to detail and precision in all drafting work, proactively identifying and resolving discrepancies.
· Manage time effectively to handle a fast-paced work environment and meet tight deadlines.
· Work independently with minimal supervision, maintaining high productivity and quality standards.
· Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure design feasibility and integrity.
Qualifications
· Associate degree in Drafting, or 2 years drafting/CAD experience post high school training.
· Ability to incorporate design intent into models and drawings.
· Proficiency in CAD software, specifically with SolidWorks PDM.
· Strong understanding of design principles, with a balance of functionality, manufacturability, and aesthetics.
· Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting ideas clearly and resolving conflicts effectively.
· Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions quickly.
· Exceptional attention to detail and a comprehensive understanding of project specifications.
· Ability to work well in a team, respecting diverse skills and contributing to collective goals.
· Good mathematical skills, particularly in geometry and trigonometry, as applied to drafting tasks.
· Outstanding time management abilities, with a track record of efficient work execution to meet deadlines.
Bonus Points
· Bachelor’s degree in related field
· Prior experience with aerospace or high-altitude balloons
· Experience working in fast paced, start-up environment
