About the Role
You will help execute an integrated program of diverse and creative communications campaigns aligned to our business strategy to maximize media exposure and brand awareness in both the US and Canada, as well as help manage internal communications (e.g., monthly all-hands meetings, sourcing and writing stories for our internal comms platform, Xpresso).
Reporting to the Head of Communications, North America, this role works closely with our retained PR agencies (2), collaborating with our global communications and marketing/sales teams, as well as Xero partners and customers to deliver desired outcomes.

What you'll do

  • Lead / support global and regional communications campaigns, both externally and internally.
  • In conjunction with our agencies, draft and review content for a variety of channels and audiences - including blogs, media releases, pitches and articles to help Xero tell its story.
  • In conjunction with our agencies, monitor news trends, brand perception and competitor positioning using online social and media tracking tools.
  • In conjunction with our agencies, prepare weekly media reports and coordinate communications reporting, including using media measurement tools.
  • Work with events and agency teams to manage media attendance and messaging pull-through where necessary (in particular, for our largest event, Xerocon).
  • Contribute toward the broader Xero communications strategy and team efforts, which incorporate PR, analyst relations, government relations, community and content.
  • Brainstorm and implement ways for execs to expand pre-existing thought leadership.
  • Support executives / people managers in how to effectively communicate important messages; schedule / host workshops as needed.
  • Brainstorm and implement ways to more efficiently communicate internally.
  • Manage, optimize and run region-wide calls - e.g., monthly all-hands.

About you

  • 4-6 years of experience in communications and public relations
  • Technology experience, and an understanding of the SMB (small and medium-size business) market is highly desirable
  • BA in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or Marketing preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with general management, marketing colleagues, vendors, partners, customers and members of the public sector and business community
  • Strong writing skills with a distinctive tone of “human” and “accessible,” and ability to communicate clearly and concisely whilst maintaining engagement
  • A self-starter who thrives in a fast-moving environment and can work collaboratively and effectively with geographically-dispersed teams
