What You'll Do:

  • Experience with designing, developing and operating distributed systems and large scale software systems.
  • Experience working in a tech or product company with comparable or greater scale and complexity.
  • Strong experience delivering technical initiatives in an operational, site reliability or platform engineering capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience in reliability concepts like observability, capacity management, autoscaling, deployment and release safety, software strategies for reliability, fault tolerance and graceful failure.
  • Experience working in environments with more advanced security and networksApplying systems thinking and systems engineering to the engineering environment.
  • Strong experience in logging, monitoring and observability of distributed systems, including troubleshooting and service level objectives.
  • Leading incident management and response, including critical, complex and high severity incidentsPost incident reviews, incident analysis and learning from incidents.
  • Experience with the implementation and support of SaaS developer tooling commonly used for observability and incident management such as New Relic, Sumo Logic and Pager Duty.
  • Experience with criticality tiering, service ownership and chaos engineering ideal but not essentialStrong business acumen and stakeholder management capabilities to support Global reliability responsibility requires focus across Xero.
  • Ability to solve cross-organisation engineering challenges including using influence rather than authority to enact change

What You'll Bring With you:

  • Software engineering and platform engineering background preferred over an infrastructure/system admin background.
  • Strong product engineering and delivery experience, over more enablement based experience.
  • Strong opinions held loosely, willingness to discuss and debate ideas.
