Harness is the AI Software Delivery Platform company, led by technologist and entrepreneur Jyoti Bansal (founder of AppDynamics, acquired by Cisco for $3.7B). Harness has raised approximately $570M in funding and is valued at $5.5B, backed by leading investors including Goldman Sachs, Menlo Ventures, IVP, Unusual Ventures, Citi Ventures, and more. As AI accelerates code creation, the real bottleneck has shifted to everything after the code – testing, deployments, application security, reliability, compliance, and cost optimization. Harness brings AI and automation to this “outer loop,” helping teams ship software faster while maintaining security and governance throughout the entire software delivery lifecycle.

Powered by Harness AI and the Software Delivery Knowledge Graph, the Harness Platform applies deep context and intelligent automation across the software delivery lifecycle with governance and policy-driven controls embedded throughout the platform.

Over the past year, Harness powered over 185M deployments, 82M builds, 18T flag evaluations, 8M security scans, 9.1B optimized tests, 3T protected API calls, and helped manage $2.8B in cloud spend — enabling customers like United Airlines, Morningstar, and Choice Hotels to accelerate releases by up to 75%, reduce cloud costs by up to 60%, and achieve 10x DevOps efficiency.

With a global team across 26 offices and 27 countries, Harness is shaping the future of AI software delivery — and we’re looking for exceptional talent to help us move even faster.

Position Summary

Our CD platform is redefining how modern teams deploy software enabling safe, automated, intelligent deployments at scale with AI-driven deployment verification, progressive delivery, and automated rollbacks. Customers rely on Harness CD to ship with confidence, reduce deployment risk, and accelerate release velocity.

We’re looking for an Architect to own the technical direction of Continuous Delivery, a high-revenue product line poised for 4x growth. You’ll set the multi-year architectural vision for CD, stay deeply hands-on solving the hardest deployment problems, and act as the definitive technical authority across the CD organization and with customers.

About the Role

  • Own the end-to-end architecture of the CD product suite deployment orchestration, pipeline execution, progressive delivery (canary, blue-green), and automated rollback safety.
  • Set the multi-year technical roadmap for CD, making build/buy and investment decisions that align with broader Harness engineering strategy.
  • Stay deeply hands-on: build critical POCs and MVPs, write production code for the hardest problems, and prototype new deployment capabilities.
  • Serve as the definitive CD subject-matter expert representing Harness to customers, partners, and internal leadership, and presenting to executives.
  • Drive cross-team architectural alignment: prevent redundant efforts, harden shared assets for reuse, and broker solutions across engineering leadership.
  • Mentor and elevate Principal and Senior Engineers; champion a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Author functional/non-functional specifications and design documents; perform peer reviews of specs, designs, and code.
  • Partner with SREs to diagnose and resolve production performance, reliability, and scale issues.

About You

Must-haves

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • 15+ years of backend software development, with deep expertise in large-scale distributed systems and microservices.
  • Proven track record architecting and scaling a CD, GitOps, deployment, or software-delivery platform (or comparable high-throughput orchestration system).
  • Deep hands-on expertise in JVM-based languages (Java, Kotlin) and/or Golang, gRPC-based microservices.
  • Expert-level Kubernetes: deployment models, operators, multi-cluster/multi-cloud, plus observability and alerting.
  • Strong command of low-level API design and core distributed-systems principles.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership: mentoring senior engineers, driving multi-team roadmaps, and advising leadership.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with GitOps tooling (Argo CD, Flux) or progressive-delivery frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kafka/Kafka Streams, Terraform, and Helm.
  • Background building developer or DevOps products.
  • Open-source contributions to relevant CDF/CNCF projects.
