YOUR IMPACT

As a Lead Automation Architect, you will establish the technical foundation of this initiative designing architectures, frameworks, and reusable patterns that empower teams to build automation once and scale it across multiple platforms and services. You will champion best practices that not only streamline operations but also accelerate delivery and improve overall service resilience. We are looking for a strategic, automation-driven technical leader who thrives on defining standards and collaborating across functions to deliver highly reliable, scalable services for OpenText’s enterprise cloud platforms. In this role, you will be a driving force behind a new enterprise-wide automation program aimed at reducing operational toil, enhancing system reliability, and enabling intelligent, scalable IT operations.

This is a senior individual contributor role with strong technical leadership influence, ideal for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of platform engineering, SRE, and automation strategy. You’ll have the opportunity to make a visible, organization-wide impact by shaping how automation is adopted and scaled across diverse teams and environments.

WHAT THE ROLE OFFERS

  • Define and own the technical architecture for the enterprise automation program, including tooling, frameworks, and integration patterns.
  • Design scalable automation solutions supporting platform and infrastructure use cases such as provisioning, configuration management, patching, lifecycle operations, observability, and remediation.
  • Establish and maintain automation standards, including:
    • Development and coding standards
    • Reusability and modular design patterns
    • Logging, metrics, and observability requirements
    • Lifecycle management, versioning, and repository standards
  • Serve as a design authority for complex or high‑impact automation initiatives, reviewing solution designs and ensuring alignment with architectural standards.
  • Partner with SRE, platform engineering, security, and product teams to ensure automations are reliable, secure, and production‑ready.
  • Define and enforce repository standards, including structure, branching and release strategies, documentation requirements, access controls, and lifecycle governance to ensure automation assets are secure, maintainable, discoverable, and reusable at scale.
  • Contribute to automation enablement through reference architectures, design templates, technical documentation, and knowledge sharing across teams.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • 7+ years of experience in platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, SRE, or automation‑centric roles.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing automation at scale in enterprise environments.
  • Hands‑on expertise with automation technologies such as:
    • Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM)
    • Configuration management and orchestration tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
    • Scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash)
    • Source control and CI/CD platforms (e.g., GitLab and GitLab CI/CD)
    • Agentic and workflow‑driven automation, including event‑driven or AI‑assisted workflows
  • Strong understanding of SRE fundamentals and production operations, including reliability and resilience, observability capabilities, and service delivery through automated deployment and runtime operations.
  • Ability to operate independently on complex technical problems and influence across teams without direct authority.

Nice to have

  • Experience defining automation standards or frameworks adopted by multiple teams and supporting on‑premises and cloud environments, including hybrid and multi‑cloud platforms.
  • Exposure to operational intelligence, analytics‑driven automation, or AIOps concepts.
