Your Impact
Join us as a Senior Network Engineer (Firewall) based in Cork, Ireland, where you will play a critical role in securing, operating, and evolving enterprise‑grade networks across on‑premises and hyperscale cloud environments. With a strong focus on firewall technologies, you will help protect mission‑critical commercial production systems while contributing to complex global network projects. This role offers hands‑on exposure to leading firewall vendors, large‑scale deployments, and a collaborative global engineering culture. What the role offers
- Operate as a senior firewall SME within a global team, delivering secure, reliable firewall services across large‑scale on‑prem and cloud environments.
- Implement and manage enterprise firewall policies and IPSEC VPNs (primarily Check Point), ensuring secure connectivity and uninterrupted business operations.
- Execute day‑to‑day operational work by owning JIRA tickets, applying firewall changes accurately and securely in line with enterprise standards and SLAs.
- Lead Tier 3 / Tier 4 incident response, driving complex troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis to rapidly restore service during high‑severity events.
- Contribute to firewall refresh, migration, and upgrade projects, participating across design, planning, implementation, and post‑change validation to ensure successful outcomes.
- Collaborate with application, cloud, and security teams to design and deliver scalable, compliant, and defence‑in‑depth security solutions.
- Automate and optimize firewall operations using APIs, scripting, infrastructure‑as‑code, and AI‑assisted tools to improve quality, consistency, and efficiency.
- Strengthen security posture by maintaining awareness of emerging threats, responding to critical CVEs, and embedding least‑privilege principles across all implementations.
What you need to succeed
- Minimum 5+ years of hands‑on experience in enterprise firewall administration and configuration.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or equivalent professional experience.
- Excellent communication skills in English, able to engage confidently with technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- SME‑level expertise in at least one firewall platform, such as: Check Point, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, Cisco Firepower.
- Strong experience configuring and troubleshooting IPSEC VPNs
- Experience working in large‑scale enterprise network environments.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals: IP addressing, subnetting; Routing & switching; Packet capture and analysis; VPNs, load balancers, DNS .
Desirable / Additional Skills:
- Familiarity with Cisco Spine‑and‑Leaf architectures.
- Experience with F5 BIG‑IP (LTM preferred).
- Exposure to public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Experience with supporting tools and platforms such as: Infoblox, Citrix, NNMi
- Strong automation and scripting experience using Python, PowerShell, Ansible, or Terraform.
- Understanding of ITIL‑aligned Incident, Change, and Problem Management.
